“They did the swab and the virus appeared. But in the lightest way because I'm not short of breath, I have no pain ", had told in a radio interview.

With important interventions in the “oscarized” films “Truce” Y “The official story”, among other great productions of the national cinema, but mainly with his popular works on television, in remembered advertisements and with a wide gallery of beloved characters in the comedy program “marriage and more”, Hugo Arana, who died today at 77 years, captivated all audiences throughout his versatile and prolific career.

The work of this admired actor had practically no respite since his appearance on the scene, in 1970, in the film “The saint of the sword” until a few weeks ago, when before being admitted to a private clinic for a domestic accident, where it was detected that he had been infected with coronavirus, participated with Moro Anghileri in the series “viral stories”, with a theme related to quarantine.

Born in the Buenos Aires town of Juan José Paso but raised in Monte Grande, Hugo Arana shone in more than 40 Argentine cinema titles and a similar number of television programs; but nevertheless, the first great popular impact would come in 1972, when starring in a remembered advertisement for a table wine, directed by Juan José Jusid, whose success forced to carry out a whole saga that continued the story.

With a solid acting training with studies with Augusto Fernandes and after cementing some experience with the theater group Errare Humanum Est, his appearance in “The Saint of the Sword” and its popularity from advertising, led him to become a familiar face in film and television production of the time.

The aforementioned “Truce”, “mother mary”, “The Bachelor”, “And tomorrow they will be men” Y “The island” were some of the movies that had him in the cast in the `70, while “daddy heart” would be the most relevant television title in those years.

But when it seemed that the levels of popularity achieved with wine advertising were not going to be surpassed, the “marriage and more”, Hugo Moser's picaresque television program, where Arana would stand out with two endearing characters with thick lines, as the case of “the groncho” Y “Huguito Spider”.

Consequence of his prolific work, the interpreter reaped several awards, including half a dozen of Martín Fierro and two Silver Condors, but he also had international recognition when he obtained in 2003 the Best Actor Award at the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival, for his work on the film “The journey to the sea”.
