The renowned filmmaker and politician, Argentine ambassador to Unesco, Fernando “Pino” Solanas, died this morning in the French city of Paris, where he received treatment for coronavirus.

The death of Solanas, of 84 years, was informed by the official twitter of Palacio San Martín, in a statement that read "Huge pain for Pino Solanas. He died in fulfillment of his duties as ambassador of Argentina to UNESCO ".

At the same time, post added: "He will be remembered for his art, for his political commitment and for his ethics always at the service of a better country. A hug to his family and friends ".

It is worth remembering that in mid-October, the former national senator reported -through his Twitter account- that he had tested positive for coronavirus and that he was admitted to a hospital in Paris, where the headquarters of this UN organization for education is located, science and culture.

The former legislator posted along with that last message a photo in which he was shown at rest in an intensive care bed, while in isolation and receiving treatment.

Filmmaker, former national deputy, former senator and main reference of the South Project group that integrates the Front of All, Solanas had 84 years and is in the age risk group most exposed to the coronavirus.

Tribute in Encounter

As a tribute, Canal Encuentro will screen a tribute to Solanas throughout Saturday, which will run until 21 and it will contain the broadcast of "Memoria del saqueo" with which he built his homonymous film released in 2003, while the 22 will screen "The sons of Fierro", feature film that marked his entry into fiction in 1975.

Tomorrow's tribute will include half a dozen chapters of "The Dignity of Nobody" that made up the film of the same name released in 2005.

The evocation will be finished, from 19,30, to the film "The hour of the furnaces", about neocolonialism and violence in the country and in Latin America, which he co-directed with Octavio Getino in the early '70's.
