“Pájaro negro” is the name of the recent album made by the Brazilian artist based in our country Aline Miklos together with the Kalo Chiriklo ensemble that investigates gypsy and Roma music in Latin America.

With a sound related to the films of Emir Kusturica, “Pájaro Negro” represents more than anything a social commitment about a record release. In that context, It is worth noting that this month the Gypsy Holocaust is commemorated around the world.

Kalo Chiriklo means black bird in Romany, reason for which it was decided that the album would take that name.

The works are inspired by legends of gypsy origin and legends of non-gypsy origin about the gypsy peoples that we find in some countries of Latin America and Europe.. Through musical language, Kalo Chiriklo seeks to make visible, question and deny slander, prejudices and falsehoods that are committed against the gypsy people.

The name of the ensemble and the album was taken from the lyrics of an anonymous song he conceived, probably, a Roma woman imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp. In the letter, she requests a black bird to tell her family that, despite the difficulties he goes through, will return home.

The repertoire of the album includes five compositions of the ensemble and three traditional Roma songs, with own arrangements. All of them are interpreted from a contemporary approach and in dialogue with Latin American rhythms.

This project has Aline Miklos in the general direction, lyrics, composition, voice and percussion, Kostas Zigkeridis in composition, accordion and musical direction, Juan Bayón on double bass, Juan Olivera in composition, trumpet and flute and Agustín Raubian on percussion.
