Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar began filming his new film, “Parallel mothers”, starring Penelope Cruz.

After several weeks of testing, on Monday the first images were filmed, as announced with joy and through his Twitter Agustín Almodóvar, brother of the director and producer of his films.

In the first photo taken on set, posada, the director appears with two of his protagonists: Israel Elejalde and one of his fetish actresses, penelope Cruz.

In summary, part of the filming of a new drama that will address, once again, the female universe through a story set in current Madrid, in which three women give birth on the same day, reported by the ANSA news agency.

Besides Penelope Cruz, the protagonists are Aitana Sánchez Gijón and Milena Smit, and a cast announced a month ago that is completed with Rossy de Palma and Julieta Serrano.

“With ‘Parallel Mothers’ return to the female universe, to motherhood, to the family. I speak of the importance of ancestors and descendants. Of the inevitable presence of memory”, Almodóvar explained in dialogue with the press.

“There are many moms in my filmography. Those that are part of this story are very different. As narrator, but nevertheless, right now i'm interested in imperfect mothers, are the ones that inspire me the most “, he added.

The filmmaker, who wrote this story during the three months in isolation due to the health situation in Spain due to the pandemic, argued that “‘Parallel mothers’ it will be an intense drama”.

Finally, if what Agustín Almodóvar said a month ago is not denied, the film will not be distributed online: “We are from the old school and we are planning the premiere of Pedro's next film on the cinema circuit, despite the various streaming platform offers they asked us to make original content for them”.
