Angel Mahler presented his symphonic tribute to Queen
Undoubtedly, Freddie Mercury with Queen have left an unforgettable imprint in music and popular culture. And that footprint is further extended after the success that meant the arrival of the biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody". Just one of those who wanted to expand that wonderful legacy was the prestigious director Angel Mahler, who decided to present a new symphonic show based on these meaningful songs.
In an exclusive dialogue with The sidewalk, Mahler gave details of what was the birth of "Bohemian Rhapsody: Symphonic", the show that started Thursday and will run until 28 September at the Teatro Coliseo (Marcelo T. Alvear 1125).
For director, "The film has been an important trigger", but he stressed that "everything I undertake there is a common denominator and that is the emotion".
What did you feel when you leave the theater?
When I went to see "Bohemian Rhapsody" I did very excited and so I said "how nice it would do here something that was never done, which is an orchestral version of a selection of topics ". We were so chose 22 and we said "let's make Orchestral and to pay tribute to Freddie and the band".
First, the public will notice that the songs have three singers, that interact during the show. Behind them an imposing orchestra will give another color to the songs created by the renowned British band.
How this desire became what you see on stage?
First we got to these three "Freddies" who left a selection, which they were attended by a total of 140 artists. The truth was that the level of most was very good and so were decanting until these three.
On the other hand, This served to prove once again the great talent that exists in Argentina as people who can do everything, because it really is very difficult what they did.
Since the beginning the idea was to have three vocalists?
conceptually, since the beginning, I wanted to be three because I thought it was a lot of responsibility for one. First, Freddie es irreemplazable, but with different versions and memories of the songs, I looked singers who had different types of voice and that could be very interesting for the public. I think there are three guys singing very good and extremely well.
Is it a different audience that will enjoy this show?
I think people feel things. If you see a good or bad show, it will feel and the applause has to do with it, with acceptance. I show people back, are very few times I turn around and look a little bit to see; but I saw that people were very excited and that means they liked.
You feel that energy, especially when we ended up with "Bohemian Rhapsody" which is a very difficult song to play. I am very happy with the result, with the group of people I work with Luis Pascual, who is my partner in this incredible project.
In every moment, Angel Mahler was grateful the outcome and the process of realization. At this he argues that "the dream begins in one's head, but then it is amazing how they are associating, sometimes unintentionally- the different characters that are helping to bring that dream you later. And then I thank God, because it is amazing the help it gives me always ".
On the other hand, the show gave him the director the possibility of exchanging roles with his son Emanuel, who runs the piano. Mahler leaves the baton to then sit down to play "It's a hard life".
The song was specially chosen by you to play?
Yes, I have chosen because it is a song that excites me a lot, a very cute theme that just talks about how difficult it is life and truth to touch my son is one of the greatest pleasures, so, switch roles I thought it was something different and I was going to bring something to the show. Seeing him run and I play the piano I was very cute, I am very lucky.
What is the main legacy left by Freddie Mercury?
I think mainly the legacy of Freddie and Queen is good music. The music is divided, in my judgement, in good or bad. It is entertainment and what they did if the letters are analyzed and the compositions- It is very interesting. They were musicians (So, with a capital) and they wrote amazing things. One thinks of a little simpler songs like "Radio ga ga", but you have others like "Bohemian Rhapsody" that are extremely difficult and definitely that, a very rich material. His legacy is that, Very good music with unforgettable melodies.
