With various productions, our country will be a participant in the edition 71 of the Berlin International Film Festival (BERLINALE), which this time will be developed in a hybrid format due to the pandemic.

Total, there will be five national productions that will meet in the prestigious meeting - a miniseries and four films- and will be exhibited in three of the festival sections.

For known reasons, the pandemic forced the festival to reduce its size and most of the films will be available to be viewed online (between the first and the 5 of March) by industry representatives and members of the press.

At the same time, BERLINALE audiences will be able to see most of the films selected at numerous Berlin film screenings in the presence of the filmmakers during the Summer Special, of the 9 al 20 of June.

The first of the Argentine participations comes from the hand of “Azor” –co-production made with Switzerland and France-, del director Andreas Fontana. This proposal will be part of the Encounters section, which aims to promote aesthetically and structurally daring works by independent and innovative filmmakers.

In his movie, Fontana tells the story of a private banker who travels to Argentina in the midst of the military dictatorship to replace his partner who disappears without leaving a trace.

On the other hand, in the Forum section, which aims to open new perspectives to help understand cinema and how it relates to the world, the Argentine-Brazilian co-production will participate, "Skiing" by director Manque La Banca, and "What will be of the summer" by Ignacio Ceroi of national production.

"What will be of the summer" by Ignacio Ceroi

First, “Esquí” is presented as a documentary of visual analysis of the city of Bariloche during the splendor of its high season. Meanwhile, "What will be of the summer", has a plot that revolves around a man from Toulouse who puts his domestic camera up for sale, that will be bought by a film director.

The new owner of the device will discover that their purchase came with previous registrations and forgotten videos, enough material to make a film.

"A school in Cerro Hueso", Argentine production by director Betania Cappato, will participate in the Generation section that promotes a cinema for young people who break conventions, contemporary films that explore the life and world of children and adolescents.

This production is introduced to the world of autism and the arrival of school age. In that context, a girl will move to a humble town on the banks of the Paraná, where you will discover your new school.

Finally, “Between men” by Pablo Fendrik, of national production, will participate in BERLINALE Series, offering an exclusive first look at outstanding new serial productions from around the world.

The miniseries consists of four chapters that were born as a novel of black police genre, created by Germán Maggiori, shortly before Argentina entered the crisis of 2001.

This proposal shows a convulsed urban landscape, marked by intense violence and moral decomposition, political and social.
