Chile canceled the Viña del Mar Festival
Faced with the advance of the coronavirus pandemic, the organization of the traditional Viña del Mar International Song Festival decided to suspend the edition 2021.
This situation will cause that the classic meeting of the song that takes place in the neighboring country will not be carried out for the first time in 60 years, according to the determination made by the Municipality of Viña del Mar and the executives of the channels that have the television rights of the event, TVN and Canal 13.
According to the words of Virginia Reginato, mayor of Viña, "We have reached an agreement to postpone the next festival, it is postponed one year, and in that we will continue talking to have the best solutions ". It is worth remembering that this edition would be edition number 62 in its history.
Reginato stressed that the next objectives are focused on "the reactivation of trade, The tourism, so that Viña del Mar will once again be the city we all want ”.
In that context, in the aforementioned Chilean municipality "an agreement will be signed to support local commerce and tourism through a promotional campaign and the realization of a television program whose protagonist is the city of Viña del Mar".
As reported by the Ministry of Health of the trans-Andean country, the latest data yielded a total of 523.907 contagions and 14.611 deceased by the pandemic.
