Closing with emotion and awards at the 39th Mar del Plata Film Festival

In a day full of emotions, The 39th Mar del Plata International Film Festival held its closing ceremony at the Auditorium Theater.

At 19 hours began a gala that brought together prominent actors, directors and filmmakers from all over the world, who gathered to honor the best of cinema.

In the Official International Competition, The award for Best Feature Film went to “Au bord du monde”, directed by Guérin van de Voorst and Sophie Muselle. Michel Hazanavicius received the Special Jury Prize for “The Most Precious of Cargoes”, while Matías Lucchesi was awarded Best Director for “El Casero”. Mara Taquin won the award for Best Performance for her work in “Au bord du monde”, and the recognition for Best Screenplay went to Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman for “Saturday Night”.

The Latin American Competition awarded “A Procura de Martina”, directed by Márcia Faria, as Best Feature Film, while in the Argentine Competition, “The Arrival of the Son”, by Cecilia Atán and Valeria Pivato, took the top award. Mariano González was recognized as Best Director for “Adult”.

In the field of short films, “The Rise and Fall of Zara Zilverstein”, by Brian Kazez, was chosen as the Best Argentine Short Film, and “Nostalgia for a Heart (Still) Vivo”, by Diego Gaxiola, stood out in the Latin American category. In the Altered States section, the movie “We Are Inside”, the Farah Kassem, won first prize, while the public chose “There Was, There Was Not”, de Emily Mkrtichian, as your favorite from the International Competition.

The most moving moment of the night came with the Astor Piazzolla Lifetime Achievement Awards, awarded to the director Héctor Olivera and the Argentine Pablo Helman, recognized for his work in special effects in large international productions. The standing ovation dedicated to Olivera highlighted the relevance of his work in national cinema.

Gabriel Lerman and Jorge Stamadianos, artistic co-directors of the festival, expressed their satisfaction with the success of this edition and stated: “This festival is a hug to cinema and cinema hugs us back”. Likewise, invited the public to celebrate the 40th edition in November 2025.

With a program of excellence and a spirit of celebration, The 39th Mar del Plata International Film Festival reaffirmed its place as a meeting and recognition space for world cinema.
