With the presence of the Minister of Culture of the Nation Tristán Bauer among those present, yesterday officially opened the exhibition “Panorama Cándido” at the National Historical Museum.
This exhibition (that can be enjoyed from Thursday to Sunday from 13 a 18.30 only by reservation) brings together an important series of works belonging to the collection of works by Cándido López that the traditional Buenos Aires enclosure has.
On the other hand, Visitors will be able to appreciate some objects from the terrible War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870), in which Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay fought Paraguay.
Bauer, meanwhile, toured the exhibition with the museum director Gabriel Di Meglio.
The works of Cándido López invite us to reflect on various aspects of the war at the same time. The moments of battle, but also leisure, the camps and the advance through unstable and marshy terrain.
In this context, the exhibition seeks to place the painter in context. The reasons for the conflict, the stories of officers and soldiers, the role of women, the traits of the bosses, the reasons of the opponents of the war and the destruction caused by it are the topics addressed. further, it was the first war photographed in South America, and Cándido's paintings coexist with photos from the collection.
