Juan Carlos Tordo, baterista de La Mississippi le anticipó a The sidewalk cómo serán los festejos por los 35 años de la banda con su regreso al Luna Park con el agregado de contar con la presencia del destacado guitarrista de ZZ Top Billy Gibbons.

Junto a Gibbons, la banda de blues y música negra surgida en Florencio Varela e integrada por Ricardo Tapia, Gustavo Ginoi, Claudio Cannavò, Juan Carlos Tordó y Gastón Picazo no solo estará en el mítico estadio de Corrientes y Bouchard (this Saturday 18 of November), sino que también dará una serie de conciertos en La Trastienda de San Telmo (Wednesday 15) y en la Sala del Museo del Carnaval, en la hermana República Oriental del Uruguay (Sunday 19).

En medio de los ensayos, The sidewalk dialogó con Juan Carlos Tordó, baterista de La Mississippi quien anticipó parte de los festejos en el Luna y también contó lo que se siente ser la ‘backing band’ de una auténtica leyenda de las seis cuerdas.

“Billy es un tipo súper amable y amigable” lo define el músico, who also emphasizes that the bearded guitarist is “a very nice person.”, Beyond that as a musician he is a super respected guy”.

It is a relationship that Ricardo generated with Martin Guigui, Billy's producer and keyboardist. This is how the relationship was born. Martín is also a divine guy. A back and forth relationship began., in which we were going to play there for Emanuel Ginóbili's farewell in San Antonio. They're all Spurs fans.. Everything was brewing a while ago and our birthday coincided with the fact that Billy came to take a vacation.. This is how the shows came out here and one also in Uruguay.

¿Estarán siempre con Gibbons o habrá un segmento exclusivo de la banda y otro con canciones de ZZ Top?

El show de La Trastienda será un show de Billy, donde nosotros haremos de ‘backing band’ y tocaremos todos sus temas. Estuvimos aprendiendo muchas canciones y será su show. En el Luna Park será diferente porque son nuestros 35 years, entonces empezaremos nosotros, con muchos temas nuestros y luego subirá Billy como invitado, para hacer varios temas de él. El final será con algunas de nuestros clásicos y también clásicos de su repertorio. En Uruguay será igual al de La Trastienda.

Al ser consultado sobre la música de ZZ Top, Tordó señaló que esta banda de rock texano “marcó una línea profunda en los ’70, con un estilo muy personal”. De hecho “hicieron una música dentro del rock and roll con muchísima identidad y cultivaron un montón de seguidores, enseñando un rock and roll distinto a un montón de gente de esa generación”.

Could you choose three songs that have marked you by them??

It would be very strict. There are many songs, but maybe “La grange”, a classic the "Tush", another great song from the band. I particularly like “Party on the patio”. But again, there are so many songs in his discography, a lot of great songs.

Billy is an amazing guy in every way.. From his personality, even his tenderness, his human quality. He is a very sensitive person. Very nice to share, just like the people around him. It was always a pleasure. I define him as a total teacher and a great creator of the part of this life that we have to live.. Because, our respects and my personal respects for this magnificent being who had the dignity of getting here and sharing with us such important moments of our career, with all humility and with all dedication.
