"Dante x Alonso" and "Trajectory Awards", new samples of Fine Arts
From 4 December the National Museum of Fine Arts will open its two new exhibitions to the public, that can be enjoyed with free admission.
"Dante x Alonso" and "Trajectory Awards" are the names of these brand new exhibitions that will remain in the traditional Buenos Aires venue located on Avenida del Libertador 1473 until the 27 February.
Both exhibits can only be visited by reserving a previous appointment through the official website of the Museum..
First, "Dante x Alonso" marks a selection of more than 40 works by the Argentine master Carlos Alonso inspired by the figure and legacy of the great Florentine poet Dante Alighieri
Under the curatorship of the director of the Fine Arts, Andrés Duprat, the first of the samples is organized in conjunction with the Italian Institute of Culture of Buenos Aires. In this exhibition, the public will appreciate drawings, collages, engravings, watercolors and inks that Alonso dedicated to Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), whose 700th anniversary of death is commemorated.
From the artist's personal collection, from the Carlos Alonso-Mansión Stoppel Museum in Mendoza and from private collections, the works correspond to two distant periods of his career: the first, of 1968-69, were created in Italy and are mostly small format portraits, while the second selected set is dated between 2000 Y 2009.
In Duprat's words, These works "connect two distant eras and show us that horrors continue to replicate and feed current imaginations" and in turn emphasizes that, as in other moments of his production, "Alonso operates on a classic to display his stark critical gaze, giving visibility to the multiple problems and injustices that occur in our days ".
National Award for Artistic Career
Meanwhile, the second exhibition includes the pieces of the eight winning artists of the National Award for Artistic Career 2020/21.
The exhibition has already become a museum regular since its implementation in 2018 National Award for Artistic Career. These productions will then become part of the collection of the Fine Arts.
Curated by the artistic director of the Museum, Mariana Marchesi, Works by Anahí Cáceres will be exhibited, Alicia blacksmith, Leandro Katz, Alina Neyman, Luis Pazos, Alfredo Prior, Norberto Puzzolo and Dalila Puzzovio, the artists selected at the discretion of the jury made up of María Florencia Battiti, Thomas Ezequiel Bondone, Carina Cagnolo, Maria Teresa Constantin, Patricia viel, Andrés Duprat and Marchesi herself.
About the sample, Marchesi sums up that “from aesthetic choices that have shaped personal and heterogeneous poetics, The pieces exhibited propose a journey through the Argentine art scene between the decade of 1960 and today ". Likewise, states that “some of these works challenge the canon or reflect on genres and artistic practice. Others work on ways of giving rise to local views, rethink the connection between the past and the present of the region, or reflect the social and political conflicts that have marked the country and Latin America ".
