Dennis Smith premieres “My Previous Life” at the Cultural San Martín
From Tuesday 29 October and only 6 functions, Dennis Smith will star in “My Previous Life” at the San Martín Cultural Center.
After ten years of “Boyscout”, Smith returns with a new one-man show that he created with Teresa Donato (based on the true story of his book “Missing Twice”) in the Buenos Aires area located on Sarmiento 1551.
This story revolves around Francisco, Mariana's son, who needs to know his mother's past as a Montonera officer. They already passed 50 years after his father's death in combat, the subsequent kidnapping and release of his mother and the link with a soldier who brought them to safety in Brazil and whom his mother did not denounce, they spin your head.
The functions will be from the 20 hours (Tuesday 29 October and 12, 19 Y 26 November and Wednesday 4 Y 11 from December).
“When Teresa Donato told me the story that we are about to release, the only thing that crossed my mind was: I have to do this. She had been interviewing the protagonist for years and was getting closer to publishing a book with the story., which will finally be launched by Seix Barral in 2025”, Smith told.
For her, porque ahondar en su historia y salir del ‘no me acuerdo’ faced her with painful grays. For me, Listening to it made me reconsider conclusions that I believed to be truths that sounded like sentences.”.
Donato maintained that “it had been almost fifty years since he had told his life to anyone, telling half-truths.”. Mariana has contradictions that make us lower our accusing fingers in times when we demand courage from others that we do not have.. In the theatrical adaptation we seek to put ourselves in their place with empathy. understand it, accompany her, hug her. Reconozco que ser ella fue difícil en los setenta pero mucho más ahora cuando se ríe con ganas a pesar de la mochila pesadísima que carga. “I would like you to understand his life and through it understand those days a little more.”.
