This Wednesday the sad news about the death of Joaquín Lavado was known, better known as "Quino", artist who gave life to Mafalda, one of the most emblematic characters in the national graphic humor.

The death of "Quino" occurred at 88 years, coincidentally one day after the anniversary of Mafalda's first appearance in Primera Plana magazine (29-9-64). His death was confirmed through the Twitter account of his editor Daniel Divinsky.

In your message, Divinsky expressed that with the death of the outstanding artist “all the good people in the country and in the world, he will cry ".

Born in Mendoza in 1932, Lavado discovered his passion for graphic art from an early age, through his uncle Joaquín Tejón.

That curiosity for drawing led him to be part of the School of Fine Arts in his adolescence, that he would later abandon to devote himself fully to comics, already permanently installed in Buenos Aires.

Year 1954 would be the one that would mark his debut in the media, with a participation in the weekly "Esto Es"; then there would be publications in recognized and remembered magazines of the time such as "Rico Tipo" and "Tía Vicenta".

"Mundo Quino" was the first book he edited, back in 1963, just a year before the arrival of Mafalda, the character who not only changed his career, but it would mean a before and after within the Argentine comic.

Mafalda opened the doors of the world to him, since it came to Italy, Spain (censored and rated for adult audiences) and Portugal. The stories of the beloved character would extend to 1973, year in which Quino himself decided not to do it anymore.
