"The Angel" will represent the country at the Oscars and Goyas

As part of the delivery of South Awards, "The Angel", film directed by Luis Ortega, It was chosen as the national representative for Oscar and Goya awards, as emerged from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Argentina.

The movie, which still remains on billboards cinemas, will compete in the category Best Foreign Film at the Oscars and Best Latin American Film at the Goya Awards.

The election took place in the central headquarters of the National School of Experimentation and Filmmaking (ENERC) the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) as part of the ceremony of South Awards 2017.

 According to the statement by Peter Lanzani, one of the protagonists, "It is a great honor that they have chosen us, I am very happy to be part of Argentine cinema to participate in films like this and where it touched me in luck to act, "adding: "Cinema is the most beautiful things that happened in my life".

Meanwhile, Matthias Mosteirín producer said he longed to be able to represent the country with this film and in turn thanked director, Luis Ortega, "For having been at the forefront of the project and who allowed us to make. Also those who elected us in a year in which there were great candidates to participate in this instance. We now have a great responsibility ahead, but we will give everything to represent Argentina ".

The film will be selected from more than seventy works around the world by the Hollywood Film Academy to join the short list to compete for Best Foreign Film at the 91st edition will take place 24 February 2019.

Worth noting that "Angel" and participated in the Cannes, Toronto and will do so this week in San Sebastián. Until now, Argentina is the most popular film of the year 1.297.696 viewers.

Previously, our country has been represented at the Oscars with seven films: "Truce", Sergio Renan, “Camila”, Maria Luisa Bemberg, "The official story", of Luis Puenzo (winner 1985), “Tango, never leave me ", Carlos Saura (coproduced with Spain), "The son of the bride", Juan Jose Campanella, "The Secret in Their Eyes", Juan Jose Campanella (winner 2009) and "Wild Tales", Damian Szifrón.

Goya Awards to the best of Latin American cinema awarded by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Spain will be presented on 2 February 2019. Argentina was the first country to win the Goya Award for Best Latin American Film, in 1986, with "A King and His Movie", Carlos Sorín, and from that edition he managed fifteen awards in that category. The last to do so far was "distinguished citizen", Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat, in 2016.
