The General Archive of the Province of Mendoza celebrates its 137th anniversary
With an act that will take place this Sunday 20 of June, the General Archive of the Province of Mendoza will celebrate its 137th anniversary.
Activities will begin from the 10.30, where a talk with historians will take place, music and an exhibition of documentary photos will be inaugurated.
The photographic exhibition has as its common thread the story through a lens, rescuing photographs from public information, that belong to the Conservation and custody area of the Provincial Archive.
This repository begins to form part of the institution's documentary collection, it highlights an important collection of negatives, as well as photographs on paper that add up to around 100.000 specimens, ranging from the decade of 1950 until the year 2000.
The General Archive of the Province of Mendoza treasures valuable documents including 1563 and the current time. Royal cédulas stand out, decrees, sides of General San Martín, trials, military lists, correspondence with other provinces and abroad.
Until 1884 there were two independent archives in the province, the Conservative Office or judicial Archive and the Government Archive that included the Cabildo. The 20 June 1884 by Law and signed by Governor Rufino Ortega, the General Archive of the Province is created.
