Free admission, The CASO Sound Art Center inaugurates the “P.A.I.S.: 35 years", a production that is based on the collection of Nicolás Varchausky and consists of recordings of anonymous spoken voices, made in public spaces around the world.

The exhibition is held in commemoration of the first 35 years of the homonymous project of the composer and sound artist Nicolás Varchausky, Sebastian curated by Vidal Mackinson.

This sample will remain open until 31 October, in the living room 302 of the case (Riobamba 985, third floor), no previous shift, from Thursday to Sunday from 15 a 19.

The "P.A.I.S. Archive" is a collection of recordings that Varchausky has carried on continuously since his adolescence, when he got his first cassette recorder. The artist records, catalogs and analyzes sound documents that account for street versions of economic discourses, religious, institutional and artistic of different societies. Throughout his career, Varchausky used the Archive's recordings as materials to compose musical pieces and works of sound art.

The exhibition Archive P.A.I.S. consists of the creation of a temporary headquarters for the Archive within the Sound Art Center. Recording devices and documents will be exhibited that testify to the different configurations that the project assumed over the decades.. The public will be able to listen to the Archive through a system of steel cables and resonant metal wiring that reproduce different recordings through devices specially designed by the artist.. Finally, a series of videos and infographic pieces analyze the musicality of some of the recordings, highlighting the rhythms and melodies hidden in orality.

Complementary activities

On the other hand, during September and October, the program of the Sound Art Center will accompany the P.A.I.S Archive exhibition. with various complementary activities: a series of concerts where sound artists will reinterpret the Archives materials and a series of talks and conferences with the artist, the curator and different personalities of the culture.

In sync with the publication of the P.A.I.S Archive online platform. (archivopais.org), the artist will conduct radio guided tours every week, proposing to the listeners various ways of exploring the Archive.
