The record John Lennon signed before he died will be up for auction

With a base price of one and a half million dollars, the “Double Fantasy” album that John Lennon signed to Mark David Chapman before he was assassinated, will be auctioned.

The firm that will put this historic piece on sale is Moments in Time, which on its website also displayed a series of photographs to demonstrate the legitimacy of the autographed disc in 1980.

The album whose cover is John Lennon kissing his wife, Joko Ono has the signature of the former Beatle and the acronym WJT-2, which is supposed to be a mark made to the plate as part of the evidence presented during the trial where Chapman was sentenced to life imprisonment, sentence that he fulfills today to his 62 years.

For Bob Zafian, Moments in Time voice, the company is "delighted to put back on the market a piece with such historical significance".

The musician and the murderer were portrayed together on 8 from December to 1980 by a photographer who was with other Lennon admirers. In that first meeting, according to witnesses, the artist was kind to his fans and signed all kinds of items, in addition to taking pictures.

But nevertheless, on his return, Chapman intercepted the singer and guitarist with a gun and fired shots that caused his death. At the scene, the criminal dropped the disc, that it was later picked up by a neighbor who handed it over to justice as one of the evidence.
