The ARFECINE festival returns for its seventh edition
After the cancellation it suffered last year due to the pandemic, the International Religious Film Festival (ARFECINE) returns for a seventh edition that will be online and free.
The meeting will take place between the 22 and the 26 of May, through the official platform (www.arfecine.com), their YouTube channel and their respective social networks, confirming its presence within the calendar of thematic festivals in Argentina.
The festival will once again have an Official Competitive Selection, which this time will be completely dedicated to documentary cinema. In this context, six works will be presented in competition with a world premiere, an American, two for Argentina and two national films with a broad international tour.
Regarding the production chosen for the opening, evening "Our Pope", Directed by Tiziana Lupi and Marco Spagnoli and produced by Antonio Cervi. This film can be seen after its premiere in Italy as a first for the entire American continent.
The Official Jury will be made up of the Belgian critic and president of the Belgian Film Critics Association, Guido Convents; the film critic and programmer of the Punta del Este Jewish Film Festival, Alejandro Yamgotchian; and the film critic from Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, Ricardo Randazzo. The Official Competition is made up of the Polish film “Devi, the prince of the miniature ", de Mariusz Orski (premiere argentina); the Basque “Arizmendiarrieta, the cooperative man ", by Gaizka Urresti (premiere americana); Argentina "A trip, two destinations ", by Roberto Reppel Toubel (premiere mundial); the Brazilian "Thirty Peoples", by Zeca Brito (premiere argentina) and the Argentine "Apurimac, the God who speaks ", by Miguel Mato and "La casa de Wannsee", by Poli Martínez Kaplun.
The Closing Film will be with the Russian "I bought a dad", de Ilya Frez, absent from display in Spanish-speaking countries decades ago, and that arrives at the festival thanks to the Artkino Pictures label.
Likewise, the documentary by Adrián Baccaro "Jorge Nóvak Siclum Apóstol" that narrates the life, work and legacy of the first Bishop of Quilmes and with 50 interviewees rebuilding Novak's life. Religious testimonies appear, of political and civil society personalities and the profile of the Servant of God Jorge Novak will also be presented, who inaugurated the Diocese of Quilmes with his ministry in light of the transformations of the Second Vatican Council.
Together with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Buenos Aires and the historic distributor label Artkino Pictures, tribute will be paid to the Czech filmmaker, Otakar Vavra with four films from his remembered filmography in the year of 110 anniversary of his birth and 10 of his death, presenting his famous Hammer for witches, Winner of the Special Mention of the Critics' Jury at the Mar del Plata Festival and, for the first time together, the so-called “Hussite trilogy where he makes an exceptional period fresco through films such as Jan Hus, Jan Zizka and Against All.
On the other hand, in this edition 2021 the Festival will present the streaming platform Xiclos.com, dedicated to auteur cinema and which brings together a selection of award-winning films at international festivals, of recent production and reflection on certain understandings in various cults through the Xiclos.com Focus.
The section "Cinema an Act of Faith", Non-religious themed human values films will present two valuable documentaries with UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, with stories about forced displacement in Central America with two poignant thought-provoking documentaries: "House in a foreign land", and "With love from Central America", a series of letters written by eight refugees, asylum seekers and internally displaced persons.
At the same time, The Rescues section will present the film by Modesto López Ernesto Cardenal as a tribute to the Nicaraguan priest Ernesto Cardenal, “Solentiname”; and also the 10 years since the premiere of the film "Jews by choice", by Matilde Michanie.
The shorts will be present and this year ARFECINE will screen together with the Todos Santos Film Festival, Mexico, a selection from the Leonardo Perel Film School. They will see "La Ahorcadita" (screened at our festival 2019) and two titles in the Argentine premiere "The Little Prince in Todos Santos" (Best Short Award at the Punta del Este Women's Film Festival), and "Alice in the country of the whales" (Selection 12 Latinuy Festival of Punta del Este).
Except for the Official Section, that will have specific days and hours of exhibition; All the programming will be available to view at all times from the official website www.arfecine.com, YouTube channel and social networks.
