The Festival of Mar del Plata will be dedicated to José Martínez Suárez
The next edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, to be held between the 9 and the 18 November will be dedicated to the memory of former president traditional meeting.
In that context, the film designated to open the festival will be "yesterday's guys used no arsenic", by the director who headed the prestigious Festival for more than a decade.
The confirmation was made in National School of Experimentation Filmmaking (ENERC), where programming meeting to be held in the seaside resort also announced.
With respect to the film opening, It will be seen in a scanned and color corrected version by the Cinematheque and the National Image Archive (CINAIN). Furthermore, and among other awards, you will be given the Astor Award for Posthumous Homage and José Martínez Suárez Award will be created for Best Director of Competition Argentina.
Organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA), The meeting will 7 official competitions, 500 projections 300 -seleccionadas films from over 4.000 Titles (record for the festival), in 15 rooms and during 10 days. It is worth remembering that of Mar del Plata is the only Class A Latin American Festival and projections represent 51 countries.
Guests and programming
Among the invited guests in this edition, highlights the American musician and member of Sonic Youth, Lee Ranaldo, by the visual artist Leah Singer; Nina Menkes American director, French critics Nicole Brenez, the director and French actor Pierre Leon, the director of the Harvard Film Institute, Haden Guest; Israeli director Hadas Ben Aroya, Spanish director Jonas Trueba, Thomas Heise German director, Mexican director Nicolás Pereda, the Spanish actress Lola Dueñas and Itsaso Arana and French Agathe Bonitzer, as well as representatives of the films that are part of different competitions and sections.
At the same time, the film will close the festival will be "The Irishman", Netflix production directed by Martin Scorsese-winning starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci y Anna Paquin.
The program is completed with different sections, retrospectives, foci, restored films, as well as special activities, chats with teachers, the second Film Forum and Gender Perspective, book presentations, workshops, and outdoor functions, movies directors such as Werner Herzog, Roy Andersson, Joon-ho Bong, Mati Diop, Abbas Fahdel, Edward Norton, Albert Serra, among many others.
