The first great fantasy genre film in cinema history, “Das Cabinet Des Dr. Caligari” (Dr. Caligari's Cabinet) celebrates 100 years of existence and Sitges 2020 adopts it as a motif for your poster, made by the Chinese agency.

The creator is David de Ramón from The Mushroom Company.

In the words of its creators, "This year we are lucky to celebrate the first centenary in Sitges with the 100 years of Dr. Caligari's cabinet. One of the undisputed fathers of fantasy and horror cinema with a disturbing gaze that has influenced so many filmmakers of the genre. We wanted to honor his unforgettable expressionist style with a reinterpretation of Sitges that emulates Holstenwall, the village imagined by the artists Hermann Warm, Walter Reimann y Walter Röhrig. A distressing vision, that reflects the collective hypnosis of its inhabitants, and that for a few days it will also hypnotize fans of the fantastic in Sitges ”.

On the other hand, it was announced that the edition 53 of the prestigious meeting will be opened by the film "Malnazidos", the zombie action film jointly directed by Javier Ruiz Caldera and Alberto de Toro.

The film adapts the novel by Manuel Martín Ferreras, set in the Spanish Civil War. The cast is made up of Miki Esparbé, Aura Garrido, Luis Callejo, Álvaro Cervantes and María Botto, among others. The film follows a group of fighters fled from rival sides during the Civil War who will have to ally to face a common enemy, the zombies.

Sitges 2020 prepares for his annual meeting with fans of the fantastic, the industry and the press in a single edition. The Festival will combine the best genre cinema of the moment with a look at films that have traced the history of the fantastic, through various tributes. Films directed by women will have an evident role - a clear trend in recent years - and the role of state cinema will also be predominant.
