With a total of 90 works, divided between paintings, drawings and documents about what he did in his early years, The National Museum of Fine Arts will inaugurate an exhibition dedicated to the Argentine artist Jorge Gumier Maier.

“From the margins. Gumier Maier in the '80s" is the name of this new exhibition that will begin this Friday 15 December and will last until 3 of March, under the curatorship of Natalia Pineau.

Drawings, Illustrations, Various photographs and publications will also be part of this exhibition, that will cover the first years of the career of this outstanding national artist born in 1953 and died in 2021.

According to Andrés Duprat said, director of the traditional Buenos Aires venue, The artist honored in the exhibition has been “a central figure of contemporary Argentine culture: artist, curator, cultural agitator, dissident activist, thinker, journalist and writer, among many other activities that he explored and that led him to be a lucid interpreter of his time.".

About the sample, the director reported that “he reviews his early work, developed between 1978 Y 1989, before his extraordinary management in the gallery of the Rojas Cultural Center, “which implied a renewal of the visual arts in the 90s”.

Likewise, Pineau explained that “Gumier Maier's artistic production began during times of dictatorship.”, within the limited spaces of expression enabled by the military government” and added: "From 1983, with democratic opening, “His creativity expanded into multiple disciplinary practices and diverse countercultural activities.”.

It is worth noting that much of this material exhibited in the Museum can be seen for the first time., since until now it remained unpublished.

With free entry, The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, of 11 a 20, and on Saturdays and Sundays, of 10 a 20.
