This Friday 23 June will be presented at the headquarters of the Casa del Bicentenario the exhibition "The conquests of the ephemeral. Graphics and industry in times of Faces and Masks”, organized by the National Museum of Engraving.

The appointment will be from the 18.30, under the curatorship of Sandra Szir at the Riobamba campus 985. There you can see a selection of works belonging to the Museum of Graphic Illustration (ME) and other Institutions.

Through this proposal, the public will realize the changes in graphic production and communication that resulted in a multiplication of illustrated printed devices at the beginning of the 20th century.

Within this context, advances in print production and image reproduction technologies will appear., together with the expansion of education or trade, that drove these transformations and made possible the propagation of a large number of images that reached, in some cases, a massive consumption.

The sample will be organized in three nuclei. In the first, illustrated newspapers from the 19th century will be exhibited, with images of satirical content, current or cultural, lithographed and monochrome. The second nucleus shows aspects of the production processes of the magazine Caras y Caretas (1898-1939), first periodical publication that disseminated a large number of current photographs, caricatures and other illustrations for a mass audience. Finally, the third nucleus presents a diversification of printed objects, colorful and for daily consumption with a variety of uses and functions, that promoted an industrialization of visual culture.

In the words of the curator, “talking about the technology of images not only authorizes us to approach the materiality of the forms, but it enables the consideration of the graphic world inhabited by printers, lithographers, recorders, colorists, reporting artists and many other subjects who participated in these collaborative processes”.
