The 2 October, Argentina will witness an important astronomical phenomenon: an annular solar eclipse, which will be visible in its entirety from the Patagonian region.

To commemorate this event, the Buenos Aires Planetarium, Galileo Galilei, has prepared a special program that includes conferences, shows in its dome, educational material, digital broadcasts, and in-person activities in Patagonia, where observation will be optimal.

Activities will begin on Thursday 22 August at 19 h with the inaugural talk “The Patagonian eclipse: “one of the most impressive events in nature”. This meeting will be led by Estefanía Coluccio Leskow, Mariano Ribas and Diego Hernandez, Planetarium disseminators. During the talk, It will explain how eclipses occur and the conditions necessary for them to occur.. The specific characteristics of the annular eclipse that will be observed from the province of Santa Cruz will also be addressed., one of the privileged places for viewing. The talk will be broadcast live through the Planetarium's YouTube channel.

On Friday 30 of August, Mario Markic, journalist and current Secretary of Tourism of the province of Santa Cruz, will present the talk “Looking for the ring of fire”. In her, will delve into the Santa Cruz towns where the eclipse can be better appreciated, promoting these destinations and highlighting their natural resources, historical and cultural.

The cycle will continue on Friday 13 September with the conference “Patagonia Park: Conservation, Nature Tourism and Local Development”, by disseminators from the Rewilding Argentina Foundation. In this talk the importance of nature tourism and conservation efforts in the Patagonian region will be discussed.. On Friday 20 of September, Eduardo Fernández Lajús will offer the conference “Waiting for the annular eclipse 2024”, where the historical interest in eclipses and the visibility conditions of the next phenomenon will be explored.

further, from the 23 August and until 2 October, The astronomical dissemination show “Sol” will be presented in the dome of the Planetarium., “Time of Eclipses”. This fulldome show, with immersive projections and live narration, will offer a detailed description of the annular eclipse of 2024.

Simultaneously, between 28 September and 6 October, Various activities will be carried out in Patagonia, in towns like Perito Moreno, Los Antiguos and Lake Posadas. These will include technical talks, gastronomy, accommodation and nature tourism services, in addition to scenic routes and guided visits to protected areas for the observation of fauna and geological landscapes.

The annular solar eclipse 2 October will be an event visible in its entirety from Argentine Patagonia, with the province of Santa Cruz as one of the key points for observation. This event, declared of interest by the Honorable Chamber of Deputies of the Nation, It is organized by the National Parks Administration, the Rewilding Argentina Foundation, the province of Santa Cruz and the Galileo Galilei Planetarium, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Sports of the Nation.
