The Tango BA Festival and Mundial 2021 presented his programming

Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, Tango BA World Festival presents the program of its edition 2021, what will start next 16 of September.

With the artistic direction of Natacha Poberaj, world dance champion in the 2006, this new edition will allow the 2×4 return to the streets meeting the public in different spaces of the City. Each activity will have reduced capacity and the corresponding health protocols. The grand finale of Tango BA will take place on Diagonal Norte street with the Obelisk in the background, concerts, Tributes, talks and outdoor milonga.

Tango BA Festival and Mundial 2021 proposes an innovative edition that seeks to support and promote the sector, after the constraints presented by the global health situation. In Tango BA Festival 2021, the public will be able to enjoy during 10 days for free of more than 100 activities with great artists, always respecting the reduced capacity and measures in force for the health context. Among them Sexteto Mayor, María Graña and Esteban Morgado, Walter Ríos, Maria Garay, Jose Colangelo, Maria Nieves, Karina Beorlegui, Michelangelo Zotto, Franco Luciani, Alfredo Piro, Orquesta Típica Sans Souci, Johana Copes, Claudia Levy, Milena Plebs and Cucuza Castiello. There will also be dance classes and exhibitions, talks, workshops and different virtual activities through the Vivamos Cultura website. One of them celebrating the 100 years of Astor Piazzolla from the City of Avellino in Italy.

Tango BA Mundial will also take place, the most important tango competition in the world, in its categories Track Tango and Stage Tango. With registrants of 25 countries, The World Cup is renewed with a different modality from previous years and specially designed for the current healthcare context.

Tango BA Festival 2021 will invite the public to visit different spaces and milongas, with reduced capacity, respecting the sanitary protocols corresponding to each space and having the City of Buenos Aires as a great stage. The dance will occupy a prominent place in the program, with exhibits, classes and dancing outdoors. The winners of the different open calls for the whole country will be included, allowing federal scope in the contents. And the lessons, talks and workshops will move to milongas, transforming the Festival into an indispensable tool for the incentive and reactivation of the sector.

The opening of the festival will be at the Auditorium of the Usina del Arte on Thursday 16 September at 19.30. With sanitary protocol and reduced capacity, Pichuqueando will take place, a tribute to the teacher Aníbal Troilo. There you can enjoy part of his repertoire with new arrangements and orchestral direction by maestro Fabián Bertero, who will play his tango “Pichuco en el Marabú” and the original arrangement by Raúl Garello, "Selection of Aníbal Troilo". The four bandoneonists of the orchestra, Eleonora Ferreyra, Natsuki Nishihara, Ayelén Pais and Lucía Ramírez, they will play alternately with the Double AA bandoneon 20334 that belonged to Troilo. Sandra Luna, fundamental interpreter in the history of tango with an international trajectory, and José Conlangelo, last pianist of the Orchestra, they will be as special guests. They will also be accompanied by the dancers Sandra Bootz with Gabriel Ortega. The opening will be broadcast on the Vivamos Cultura website.

further, the 21 September at 18 in Centennial Park more than 20 artists will meet for an unprecedented event: honor Diego Armando Maradona from tango. Genre lover, the soccer star ventured into it singing classics like "El Sueño del Pibe" or "Cucusita". The public will be able to enjoy a concert that will include the most representative tangos, songs written for the soccer player from different genres and an unpublished song by the poet Horacio Ferrer. It will also be the premiere of the tango instrumental "El Gol del Siglo en tiempo de tango", composed especially for the occasion by the bandoneonist Gabriel Merlino. Roxana Fontán will perform, Walter “Chino” Laborde, Alicia Vignola, Hernán "Cucuza" Castiello, Ricardo Marín and the “Cardinal” Domínguez, Gabriel Merlino Ensamble, Cachivache Orchestra, Hernan Reinaudo, Pablo Covacevich, Mauro Caiazza and Marcela Vespasiano, Bruno Tombari and Rocío Lequio, among others.

Three circuits will offer the public to enjoy different activities, concerts and talks while touring the Historic Center, the Center and the South of the City. They will be able to know cultural centers, notable bars, museums, clubs and enjoy outdoor spaces. These tours will begin on 18 September in the Historic Center with activities from the 15 and a closing at 19 at the corner of Chile and Defensa with the concert Tangos Clásicos Improbables by Alfredo Piro. To be continued on Sunday 19 through the southern part of the City of Buenos Aires with a central stage in the Pompeya neighborhood and shows at the Milonga del Pueblo in the Salón Sur en Vivo cultural center. And it will culminate on Wednesday 22 in downtown Buenos Aires, closing the day the trio formed by Víctor Lavallen (bandoneón), Pablo Estigarribia (piano) and Horacio Cabarcos (double bass) in the Golden Room of the Colón Theater.

More of 400 couples from Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Spain, Romania, Poland, Malaysia, Turkey, U.S, UK, China, Germany, Colombia, Indonesia, Ecuador, Mexico, Latvia, Georgia, Bolivia, Canada and Switzerland will compete in the Tango de Pista and Tango Escenario categories in this edition of Tango BA Mundial.

Argentina will be represented by dancers from CABA, Buenos Aires province, Land of Fire, Chubut, Santa Fe, Córdoba, Neuquén, Missions, Jujuy, Tucumán, The Pampa, Salta, Corrientes, The Rioja, Black river, San Juan, Santa Cruz, Between Ríos and Chaco.

In this new edition, the competition is specially designed for today's healthcare context. Competitors will be able to participate in person and virtually; both modalities being measured in a single competition to find out who will be the new World Champions of Track Tango and Stage Tango.

The competition will have the qualifying rounds and semifinals at the Usina del Arte, with public presence and reduced capacity, complying with the protocols and sanitary measures for the public and competitors. Tickets will be reserved 48 hours before on the web Vivamos Cultura.

The qualifying rounds of Tango de Pista will take place on the days 18 Y 19 September and the Semifinal will be held on 22 of September. On Stage Tango, the qualifying rounds will be the days 20 Y 21 September and the Semifinal on the day 23 of September.

For the first time, the Tango BA Festival and Mundial finals will have the Buenos Aires Obelisk in the background. The most important tango event worldwide, that summons Argentine dancers and couples from all over the world in the Tango de Pista and Tango Escenario categories will take place on an important stage. It will be in Diagonal Norte, there will be unmissable shows like that of the Sans Souci Orchestra, the Sexteto Mayor with Roxana Fontán, Arrabal serenades with the voice of Pablo Banchero and a guitar trio, and a heartfelt tribute to Juan Carlos Copes, passed away this year. Jorge Muscia, renowned filleter, will paint live with his project The Red Carpet of Tango.

There will be a talk with the public between the dancers María Nieves and Silvia Toscano, "The Puppy", in which María Nieves will tell the story of how she brought dance floor tango to the stage. Together with Juan Carlos Copes they were the artists who professionalized the tango dance, reaffirming it in our local identity and spreading it in the rest of the world.

further, a tribute show to "Argentine Tango" will be held, show by Claudio Segovia and Héctor Orezzoli that was decisive in the international recognition of tango. This tribute will include exhibitions by renowned dancers such as Milena Plebs and Fernando Carrasco, Vanina Bilous and Javier Rodríguez, Guillermina Quiroga and Mariano Logiudice and Analía Morales and Gabriel Ponce. The staging will be in charge of Julio Zurita.

further, of an audience specially set up for face-to-face spectators, The finals will be streamed worldwide by Vivamos Cultura. Some couples will compete in person and others virtually, following current protocols. As in all editions, the competition will be chaired by a jury of recognized international trajectory. The event will be conducted by Carlitos Lin. In the Tango de Pista Final they will compete 30 dance couples and in the Stage Tango Final they will be 15 couples.
