Under the direction of Ana Lucía Rodríguez, Thursday 8 In August “Dust in the Eye” will arrive at the Cervantes National Theater, text by Damián Smajo.

The work features the performances of Melina Benitez, Fabian Bril, Martin Kahan, Hernan Melazzi, Fernando Ritucci and Smajo himself. The functions will be from Thursday to Sunday from the 21 hours and up to 29 of September.

This show offers a modern reinterpretation of the myth of Juan Moreira, reviewing its history from an innovative perspective and breaking with the traditional conventions of Argentine theater. Set in La Pampa during the end of the gaucho era, the plot presents Polvareda and Nácar, mother and daughter exiled from their tribe, who capture a Spaniard in the hope of rebuilding their community. parallel, two gauchos on the run find Juan Moreira, a living legend whose life was radically changed by love, causing an epic tragedy in this Pampas meeting.

The text moves away from the patriarchal and rigid structures imposed by gaucho literature., proposing a vision where the characters are not limited by traditional roles. The hero, Juan Moreira, shares the spotlight with other characters, everyone driving action equally. The dramatic universe that unfolds is full of mythological and literary references, poetically diverted through the metalanguage of the Creole circus, which adds a layer of complexity and artifice to the narrative.

Inspired by the writer Úrsula Le Guin's reflection on the importance of the hero in stories, The work asks what would happen if the hero were not the center of the story and the plots did not focus on a single conflict. “Dust in the Eyes” prioritizes tricks and delusions over triumphs and conflicts, creating a rich and diverse narrative. This work promises to offer a unique theatrical experience, inviting the public to enjoy a show full of creativity and depth, and challenging the traditional conventions of the myth of Juan Moreira.
