Johnny P. & The Companions dismisses the year in Santos 4040
This Friday 14 from December, Johnny P. & The Companions will be closing the year with a special concert at Santos 4040 and the presence of Bautista Santos, to give a brooch 2018 very intense.
For this reason, The sidewalk interviewed Alejandro Estayno, vocalist of the group who highlights that this year has been "great for us, where we were spinning with our record (shot of rouge), a year with a lot of work and we are very happy, especially because of the dialogue we were able to create with the public”.
What will the public see in this concert?
The proposal is very interesting., this is an important show for us, with a varied sound range. I consider that we are a band that flirts its sound with electronics, but he will also have a sax, trumpet, a female voice…the proposal will be great.
How do you define “Balazo de rouge”?
I would define it as a coherent product of the band. Our group is eclectic, imprint and that has a particular weight. Several guests paraded on the disc, as Deborah Dixon, Joaquin Vitola (Indians) Joaquín Levington (Turf), to name a few. It's an album with a lot of rhythm, a lot of groove, with dark themes, techno sounds, funk and also some rock, but all with our imprint, which is to take the influences and merge them into a sound year 2025, as we always say, beyond being in 2018.
How do so many influences converge within that style?
At home I had generations of records. stuff from my grandparents, my parents, my brother…my own records that come through listening, because first there was the music lover and then the musician. We hear from foxtrot, with "Riders in the sky" in Spanish to James Brown and also Memphis, Happy Mondays…at the end, the influences are diverse. Today perhaps the strongest is determined by black disco music, soul and funk, which are styles that we like to merge.
What does the presence of Bautista Santos?
Bautista is a singer-songwriter and a phenomenal guy. He has an album called “Amaradentro” and everything you expect to hear is defined there. This is an artist who is very magnetic with the public.
Can you find out more about the next album?
there will be guests, even though they don't know it yet (laughs). We have a wide grid that we will be putting together later once we finish producing a little more. We have sessions left between January and February at the Romaphonic studios and in the last dates we will include the works with guests.
The album will be called "Don't go to sleep" and we will be presenting it in March of next year. It will have a lot of Latin rhythm and it will have a lot of danceable electronics, but with song format. A kind of electronics applied to our songs.
What would be the invitation to see the band?
I would say if you want to see an absolutely original band, bailable, that sounds tight, fun and intense; with lyrics that do not underestimate the listener, that group is Johnny P.
