The winners of the Photography Contest are here: Biodiversity
The European Union announced the winners of the second Photography Contest: Biodiversity in Argentina 2023, where they were analyzed more 10 thousand images.
The purpose of this contest was to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving biodiversity.. Within this framework, The competing photographs covered the entire country and hundreds of different landscapes were recorded, species and eco-regions of the country.
From young amateurs to long-time professional photographers, The huge number of participants far exceeded the organizers' expectations., which reflects the importance that the issue of biodiversity has for Argentine society.
Of the total images received, 24 were distinguished in the final selection, as stated by Gisela González Servat, EU Press and Public Diplomacy advisor in Argentina. “There are many more photos of unquestionable value. The European Union intends to exhibit the selected photos and surely some more in 2024”, he added.
The nomination of the images was done through an anonymous process and the selection was in charge of a jury made up of Elda Harrington, director of the EAF-Argentine School of Photography, Silvia Mangialardi, director of the FLA-Luz Austral Foundation, in addition to Gisela González Servat.
Through their images, the authors have managed to artistically reflect biological diversity while paying tribute to nature.. Each of the photographs reminds us of the subtle balance that governs life on our planet and invites us to reflect on the effect of our actions that can endanger said balance.. They are a warning for the present and the future, since the 25% of biodiversity in Argentina is under threat of extinction.
The protection of biodiversity is a global problem. Because, The EU is committed to restoring and preserving nature, with the aim of recovering its biodiversity for the year 2030. For it, the EU Biodiversity Strategy between now and 2030, part of the European Green Deal, it's key. And this contest is a tool to make visible the need to protect the biodiversity of Argentina and our planet in general..
