Premieres "The Nobody", the work based on the text of Eduardo Galeano
This Friday, the city of Berazategui will receive the work "Los Nadie", a show that seeks to reflect the harsh reality of marginality, based on the text by Eduardo Galeano.
Directed by Rodrigo Gramajo, the play will be presented at the El Taller theater, located on the street 6 3672 of the aforementioned southern part of the Buenos Aires suburbs.
Before the premiere (the work can be seen from 21), director Gramajo spoke with The sidewalk, provided all the details related to the creation process and its subsequent staging.
“When I came across the text for the first time I had 15 years and was a teenager like everyone, with feelings on the surface ", expresses the director that today has 28 years. “Personally, things that have to do with social struggles have always mobilized me a lot., popular and the vindication of Human Rights. When I read Galeano's text it really pierced me deeply and that is why I wrote this work ", adds.
Today, More than ten years later, both he and his cast are encouraged to carry out this proposal since "we feel prepared to be able to create the world that both the work and the poem demand".
"It was never an easy job to do, Oh well, when you are a teenager you are more daring and you jump into the pool easier ”recalls Gramajo regarding his feelings when meeting Galeano's poem for the first time.0
Although it is a text that is several years old, Marginality has always been a current issue. What commonalities are found between Galeano's text and society??
The common point that today I still find with Galeano's text is the street, the neighborhood. The fact of going to study, board the train, get off the train, take a subway and see people lying on the floor covered with newspaper or cardboard; the kids asking for coins, juggling, or cleaning windshield.
That is the cruel side of our society. All that I still see palpable and he looks us in the eye. Has face, although Galeano tells us no. But it's not that they have no face, we want to ignore that look that asks us for help and push that feeling of "something wrong we are doing". There I find Galeano so current and palpable. When I see the homeless and totally abandoned to what the street can do.
What proposal is the public going to find?
Undoubtedly, the public will find a dynamic work in a physical format. That means that the actors are all the time generating action in motion.. It is a work that also has many things of expressive theater, It is not one that is marked within realism or theatrical naturalism, quite the opposite. It is a work that more than a story seeks to convey sensations and emotions.
"The Nobody" It is worked with the construction of images and all the time it tries to make us feel something. Not only that the public leaves with a reflection of the message, but that it can really be traversed by the actions and the acting work and by all those devices typical of the theater, like light, the scenery, costumes…
How was the assembly of the cast for the play?
This turned out to be somewhat complicated. One of the things I tried in this play is to put on stage everything I had learned in college and in my career., above all being very faithful to my vision and my essence as a playwright. How I feel the theater and how "Los Nadie" goes through me.
I was sure it must be a physical play, so not everyone can do it. On the other hand, I looked for actors whose eyes are similar to mine. I immediately had a response from three of the actors (Franco Leonardo Segovia, Leonardo Daniel Baudot and Natalia Valdez) and I was missing a quarter, for what a while i thought it would be me. This is how Gastón Núñez joined, who did an impressive job, he had to join a process already started and attributed things to the work that today I see as essential.
What kinds of situations will the characters be tied to??
Without the intention of getting too far ahead, the play begins with these four characters, The Nobody, meeting to eat, for dinner ... there is no definite time. A normal situation, how we do it, but there they realize that there is nothing to eat and this, this reality so crude and simple, It will make them ask what they have to do to get out of that state of poverty and marginality.
There, different options begin to appear, to which they will undergo, from the complexity of looking for a job for a person who cannot read or write or the possibility of committing a crime, among other.
These characters will surf these situations until they reach a sadly tragic end.
The synopsis tells about eternal misery, forgotten human beings ... how do you convey a positive message or provide humor from these triggers??
This to put humor to such a strong theme, so sad and deep is perhaps the desire of the therapeutic clown that I am. The fact that humor heals everything and helps us get through any pain makes me put it to work.
It is like putting light on darkness and I think it is also this look that for me is absurd. In my head I do not understand how in the XXI century, where there are spaceships and technology there are people who do not have a roof or access to health, education, a plate of food or a roof. I get carried away by that absurdity of living and humor appears alone, in the contradictions of a society in which perhaps a person who cannot read or write a CV is asked as if it were something so simple. These contradictions are also evident in the work.
Once released, How is the presentation of the work? What are the plans for the remainder of the year and for 2022?
For next year the most important thing is to articulate with Red Puentes, a Sedronar program, the ability to perform a free function, followed by a talk-debate. These are day transit houses that work with people living on the streets and problematic consumption.
On the other hand, we have every intention of entering festivals and touring Greater Buenos Aires, especially south zone. Then stay open to all the spaces that want to receive us. We hope this work can be seen, that we reach the people. We really want to question this historical problem, where homeless and marginalized people can no longer exist.
By my side, a dream of my own that might sound silly, is the fact of receiving the cultural importance, since it is a play that touches on a novel theme and from a novel and interesting theatrical device.
