Cultural events by 700 years since the death of Dante Alighieri

As part of the commemoration for the 700 years of the death of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, author of the “Divine Comedy”, a series of interdisciplinary initiatives will be presented starting Thursday.

In that context, you will be able to appreciate a new translation of his emblematic work, the presentation of a film and a day with activities that include the participation of artists and academics.

Known as "Dantedì", Thursday 25 March is the national day dedicated to Alighieri, as established by the Italian Ministry of Culture last year. In tune with that statement, the Italian Embassy in Argentina and the Italian Institute of Culture of Buenos Aires organized a series of events entitled “Dante: 7 arts by 700 years” and they contemplate dance, cinema, theater and literature.

New translation

A new translation of the “Divine Comedy”, made by Claudia Fernández Speier for Colihue publishing house, It will be presented in the Sala Argentina of the Kirchner Cultural Center, Thursday 18.30 with free admission and prior reservation at Compartir.cultura.gob.ar/centro-cultural-kirchner

The moderation will be in charge of Emiliano de Bin, with the presence of Fernández Speier and Alejandro Patat (from Italy), who will talk about the work. The event will be presented by the director of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura de Buenos Aires, Donatella Cannova and will have the participation of Mariano Sverdloff, collection director “Classical” by Ediciones Colihue.

Screening of the film Hell

The silent film will be screened “The hell” (1911), one of the first Italian silent film blockbusters, directed by Francesco Bertolini, Giuseppe De Liguoro, and Adolfo Padovan.

Inspired by classic Dantean iconography, like Gustav Doré's illustrations, the film travels the circles of Dantean Hell, seen from the eyes of the poet and his prophet Virgil, in a whirlwind of encounters with stories and characters of intense drama.

The movie, of 66 minutes, is based on the text of the first canto of the “Divine Comedy” and in the famous engravings of Gustav Doré. Its soundtrack, accompanying the projection, It was created one hundred years after the premiere of the piece, by the Edison Studio in Rome

Short film “Fortunately for us”

The Italian Embassy presents the premiere, simultaneously with Italy, of the short film “Fortunately for us” (“Dante. For our luck”), a movie of 27 minutes in original version subtitled in Spanish, with the direction of Massimiliano Finazzer Flory (Milan).

The screening of the film will be introduced with an interview with the director.

It is an original dance show, music and theater that will take the audience on a journey through the visionary world of Dante and the “Divine Comedy”.

In film he takes the 21 chants -between hell, purgatory and paradise- of Alighieri's work and shows them from contemporary dance and the gaze of a child, through the metaphor of the theater.

“Described through the eyes of a child Dante in love with reading and choreographed by Michela Lucenti, the most significant themes of the work are interpreted by the movement of the dancers accompanied by the voice-over of Finazzer Flory and Angélica Cacciapaglia, now in prose, now in verses of Dante”, It is announced.
