Celebrations for a new anniversary of the City of Buenos Aires

This Saturday 11 June the City of Buenos Aires will celebrate its 442nd anniversary and for this reason a large number of cultural activities will be carried out to enjoy for free from the 13 until 17.

Among the proposals is the realization of theater scenes, Guided tours and workshops in the Old Town of Buenos Aires, under the organization of the Ministry of Culture of the City.

As for theatrical productions, will be linked to moments in history; There will also be workshops and different guided visits and tours. further, via QR codes, the public will be able to learn about the history of iconic buildings in the Historic District.

The second foundation of Buenos Aires happened on 11 June 1580, when Juan de Garay was the one who -on behalf of the Spanish Crown- he baptized it as City of the Holy Trinity and Port of Santa María del Buen Ayre, where it started to develop, at the social and political level, in the current grounds of the Plaza de Mayo.

According to the Chief of Staff of the City, Philip Michael, “There is no better setting to celebrate the 442 years of history of our city that where everything was born. That is why for us it is an immense joy that the citizens of Buenos Aires can enjoy in the Historic District, of a day where culture and history are the protagonists. Saturday is a real opportunity to, Through the art, learn and connect with the identity of our City”.

In the same vein, Culture Minister Enrique Avogadro said that it will be possible to “enjoy a cultural day in the historic center that will allow us to learn a little more about our history and our identity. There in the same streets where our city was founded many years ago and where today we continue to build citizenship because it is in the public space where we all meet. We are waiting for you to celebrate a new anniversary of the founding of the City”.

Neighbors and tourists will be able to scan QR codes with their cell phones, that will remain on the facades, of the following iconic buildings of the Historic District to learn about their history: Heights of Elorriaga (Buenos Aires Museum), Old Tasca de Cuchilleros, british pub, El Colonial Bar, Bar El Federal, The Hippopotamus Bar, Basilica and Convent Santo Domingo, House of the Cherubim (Buenos Aires Museum), Solar of the Martina Céspedes Grocery Store, Birthplace of Tita Merello, Building "The Forger", Edificio Ex Padelai, Virrey Liniers space, Star Pharmacy (Buenos Aires Museum), Forner Bigatti Foundation, Old Hotel Gallery, French Solar Gallery, St Andrew's Scottish Presbyterian Church, Church and Convent of San Francisco, Puerto Rico Bar, Avila Bookstore, Magalda, Ex Parakultural, Parque Lezama, San Lorenzo Passage, Cartoon Walk, Dorrego Square, Pride Café, Solar Natal by Manuel Belgrano and Taconeando.

“This city is undergoing a constant transformation and the passing of the years is reflected in the historic center, like nowhere else. Households, Hotels, workshops, shops, museums, public buildings and cultural spaces coexist in the first Buenos Aires. That is why from the City Government we decided to carry out actions that restore its splendor, preserving its cultural and heritage identity. We believe it is the right place to celebrate your birthday”, detailed Vivi Cantoni, undersecretary of cultural management of the City.

Brief theater scenes linked to moments in history and/or expressions of the city's culture or identity will be staged at five points in the Old Town. These scenes will be participatory that will seek the participation of the public.

The first scene will be Martina Céspedes and the English Invasions. Actresses and actors dressed in period costume will recreate one of the crucial moments in Argentine history on the real stage where everything happened. The second scene will be Immigrants, a short of students. In front of the remarkable bar “El Colonial”, Peru and Av. Belgrano: three film students decide to make a documentary about the immigrants who populated the neighborhood as practical work. Closing will be at 16:30 in the Buenos Aires Museum (BAM), located in defense 187, with a show by Los Tabaleros from the balconies of the museum. further, During the day there will be guided tours of the Historic Center that will leave the Buenos Aires Museum at 13:30 Y 15:00 hours with prior registration on the Casco Histórico website. Inside the BAM, Guided tours will be held every hour, between the 13 and the 17. There will also be workshops for boys and girls: a workshop by Arte Andarín a las 15 and creating future together, a continuous workshop of monocopy and stencil of 14 a 17 hours with limited seats without prior registration. All activities will be with free admission.

In the spaces of attention to the spectator (located in the Buenos Aires Museum, Plaza Dorrego and San Telmo Market) they will be distributing 6 Hull Maps, thematic maps of the cultural ecosystem of the Casco Histórico made by different illustrators and illustrators (The Historic District, The Helmet for Girls, museums, Remarkable Bars and Gastronomy, Antiques and Antiques Fair and Bookstores and Printed Culture).
