The Mar Dulce Gallery will receive April with a new exhibition that will revolve around the national past, hand in hand with the "Manual of Argentine History I"; a selection of oil paintings by Javier Velasco.

With a virtual opening (through the Instagram account @galeriamardulce) on Friday 9, The exhibition can be visited in person from Saturday 10 of April (with prior reservation) and up 22 May at the Uriarte campus 1490 the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo.

About the exhibition, from the Gallery it is explained that “when observing Javier Velasco's oils, the first thing that comes to mind is a memory of school, place where he told us what to believe, how to interpret and how to feel the events of Argentine history ".

These indications responded "to the needs of the State that sought to build a pantheon of heroes since the end of the 19th century with which to violate a feeling of Homeland over a heterogeneous population that should form the new Nation.".

In that context, “The two hundred years that elapse between the events and Javier's paintings allow —school curriculum through— perspective and revisionism, in addition to the style between the game of soldiers and black humor ".

On the latter, emphasis is placed on “the mixture, the hodgepodge, camp in the images of these skirmishes: quirky explosions, heads that fly, blood children alternate with the historical rigor of the color of the royalist and patriotic uniforms. The death of Güemes with the gauchos in the various positions of lament. Belgrano consecrating his victory in Tucumán to the Virgen de la Merced ".
