Winners of the online edition of the Festival Luz del Desierto
Of the 22 al 26 May the #DesdeCasa edition of the Luz del Desierto Festival was held, which was seen by close to 20 thousand users who enjoyed the official selection.
In that context and for five days; 5 movies and 19 Short films selected in the open call were seen on the festival platform for free by users from Argentina, U.S, Uruguay, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Chile, Ireland, Peru and Colombia.
In the National Feature Film Competition, the jury made up of Luz Ruciello, José Ludovico and Guillermo Gatti (de EDA, Argentine Association of Audiovisual Editors) They congratulated all the participants because to make movies “it takes a lot of time and love”. The Best National Film award was won by "Blind" by Fernando Zuber.
The jury for the short film competition was made up of Jennifer Haslop, Mariana Russo (de ADF – Of Cinematographers Argentina) and Rodrigo Piaggio- Marchant.
Regarding the award for Best National Short Film, the award went to “C.I.T.A. (Cooperativa Industrial Textil Argentina)"From the directors Lucas Molina, Tadeo Suárez and Marcos Pretti.
"Calle 52" by Director Pablo Ceccarelli received the First Jury Mention for his poetic ability, “being an observational documentary as it generates force in the complaint and its rapid appropriation of the subject, of the floods”.
“The club” by director Emmiliano Martínez obtained the Second Jury Mention for his photography, color treatment and by “How narrates the pain of absence, the passage through adolescence and the treatment of the past and the present that is very clear and very beautiful”.
The winner of the Best International Short Film award was Rewild by Director Nicholas Chin and Ernest Zacharevic for “the importance of the theme, his documentary poetics and excellent resource management and use of reverse and sound mixing”.
The winners of the Best National Feature Film award from previous editions composed the jury for the competition for short films produced in quarantine. Eduardo Elli, Ezequiel Yoffe and Pablo Radice (winners of the first, second and third edition respectively) chose for Best Short Film in Quarantine So say all of us by Irish director Colin Peppard “for its interesting montage, by dosing the information, the relationship between image and sound that is expressive, non-naturalistic, for using photography as the record of memories and life”.
The First Mention of the Quarantine Jury was for the Peruvian short "Dimensions" by Alessio del Pozo Temoche because it was “build an intimate poetic story, It has a very interesting aesthetic and tells a daily story but it is very sensitive”. The director thanked the award and reflected on the distance generated in this new reality (pandemic) and the feelings. He denounced that distance becomes a privilege when many people have to go out during quarantine to work and eat.
During the days of the festival, different live concerts were held on Instagram on topics of general interest to the community.. Federico Sykes gave the talk “Accessibility for deaf people in audiovisual media”. At the same time, Karina Expósito, by EDA (Argentine Association of Audiovisual Editors), made a talk about editing in Argentine cinema called "Much cinema and few methods".
The award ceremony was held live on Live Facebook and igtv Instagram and is available on YouTube. In addition to the awards ceremony, the award ceremony included the musical participation of the feminist mariachi band María Chicumba.
