Tributes to Juan Giménez and Eugenio Zoppi on the Cartoonist's Day
Within the framework of the Cartoonist's Day that is celebrated this Tuesday, the Mariano Moreno National Library will carry out tributes to two greats of the genre such as Juan Giménez and Eugenio Zoppi.
In both cases, the traditional Buenos Aires venue will hold an exhibition of part of the materials that both artists used during their long career. These elements were donated by the respective families to the Argentine Cartoon and Graphic Humor Archive.
Unfortunately, Gimémez - one of the great artists in the science fiction genre- recently passed away (2 of April) because of COVID-19, for this reason, his wife Silvia Zeballos decided to make a donation to the aforementioned Library Archive.
Among these elements are an original drawing commissioned by the Mendoza authorities to commemorate the 200 years of the Crossing of the Andes, a cartoon dedicated to “Captain Beto's Ring”, Luis Alberto Spinetta's song (work that was exhibited in an exhibition at Tecnópolis in 2015), the publications of homemade comics that Giménez made among the 14 and the 16 years, agendas, notebooks and a book dedicated by his sixth grade teacher: “You have extraordinary ability to draw; complement all your efforts in all other aspects of education and you will succeed”.
The Library offers part of this material in a tribute video that can be seen from today on its YouTube channel.
On the other hand, in the restart of the joint work with the Association of Cartoonists of Argentina (THERE IS) to gather materials and testimonies of the history of the Association, The Argentine Cartoon and Graphic Humor Archive of the National Library participates in the magazine Sacapuntas in its online edition with a note that reconstructs the period of Eugenio Zoppi's management, in the middle of the last military dictatorship, from documentation donated by his daughter to the Library.
