This Saturday, between the 10 and the 21 hours, the inauguration of the artistic intervention located under the highway at the height of Defense Street will be held, in the San Telmo neighborhood.

With free activities for all neighbors, This initiative comes through the General Directorate of Heritage, Museums and historic center of the city of Buenos Aires, in conjunction with the Buenos Aires Ministry of Public Space and Urban Hygiene.

The intervention will consist of a mural on the roof of the highway and floor painting on the lower highway, co-created with neighbors, with the incorporation of urban furniture and comprehensive improvement of the Public Space.

“This initiative seeks to transform and re-signify an urban space through art, ”said Culture Minister Enrique Avogadro and added: "It is a cultural proposal in a significant place within our Historic Center. With this intervention we contribute to our objective of having an increasingly beautiful city with cultural content ".

The official also wanted to "highlight the work of the different institutions so that we can carry out this urban and social change".

Meanwhile, Clara Muzzio, head of the Public Space and Urban Hygiene area of ​​the City stated that “the public space is being transformed into a closer place for the neighbors.. This is part of a comprehensive plan that seeks to enhance the cultural identity of the neighborhood through the intervention of the environment ".

Muzzio explained that in this work, "We widen the paths, gaining 150m2 for pedestrians. We incorporated lights to improve visibility and we summoned a muralist who through her art added color to the under-highway ”.

Live Cantoni, Undersecretary of Cultural Management, expressed that the Historic Center "is one of the main spaces of the City, so much for its enormous historical cultural heritage, as for what it represents for all the neighbors. This intervention is part of that process of enhancing each of its corners. It is about innovating using art and culture as protagonists ".

On the whole, The intervention seeks to turn the under-highway on Defensa street into a link between Plaza de San Telmo and Parque Lezama, to invite residents and tourists to continue their tour of this heritage neighborhood.

Complying with the corresponding protocol for outdoor events with the public, On Saturday the activities will begin where the planting and improvement of a flowerbed will be carried out together with the neighbors and the Commune 1. from 12 until 14.30 hours, there will be a picnic under the highway with the neighbors. Of 15 a 16 hours, the little ones will be able to hunt for treasure in a fun outdoor activity. At 17, the neighbors will tell their stories about the Old Town on a tour of the neighborhood. Of 19 a 20 hours, plants for their balconies will be delivered to neighbors. And finally, to 20, an intervention of lights and music will be carried out in the under highway of Defensa street. further, throughout the day, there will be a seed vending stand where neighbors can bring their PET bottles and exchange them for seeds to plant in their homes.
