Inaugurated the exhibition dedicated to Carmelo Arden Quin in the Fine Arts
The National Museum of Fine Arts inaugurated the temporary exhibition dedicated to the Uruguayan Carmelo Arden Quin (1913-2010), with more than a hundred works by the great River Plate artist.
Under the curatorship of Cristina Rossi, This exhibition also has the works of those constructive artists with whom he was linked throughout his career.
In this way the sample will allow to appreciate in the rooms 37 a 40 from the first floor 103 works by Arden Quin, put in dialogue with 63 pieces made by more than 50 contemporary artists.
The director of the museum, Andrés Duprat, maintained that "Carmelo Arden Quin is a central figure of the River Plate culture" and added: “The exhibition that the Museum dedicates to the artist retrospectively reviews his plastic and poetic work, in addition to placing his production in a plot that explores the different groups that he joined over time. The exhibition will reveal the vitality of a creator who redoubled his commitment to a plural and playful art”.
Meanwhile, the curator Cristina Ross states that “the integrative vision of this artist was the engine that drove the construction of a network that, at the same time, allowed him to maintain the vitality of his proposal”.
The exhibition takes as its starting point his early relationship with Joaquín Torres García: "Since 1935, Arden Quin opened his horizon towards avant-garde ideas, and understood the importance of group work and the creation of their own magazines for the circulation of ideas and aesthetic proposals”, details the curator.
A) Yes, the sample runs from his participation in the drafting committee of Arturo. Abstract Arts Magazine, until the founding of the literary publication Ailleurs; from the incipient group that gave rise to the presentations of the Movimiento Arte Concreto Invención (MACI), to the MADI group; desde el Center for Research and Studies MADI rue Froidevaux, to the Buenos Aires Association of New Art; since his definitive return to Paris, until its projection in the extended international MADI movement, all of them, spaces in which Arden Quin assumed the role of catalyst of collaborative relationships, enumerates Rossi.
The set of works that make up the exhibition comes from the artist's legacy, from the collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts and other public and private institutions, like the MACBA, the MALBA and the Sívori Museum. They also ceded works on loan more than 20 private collectors.
The exhibition “Carmelo Arden Quin. In the fabric of constructive art” can be visited, With free entry, until the 20 of November, in theaters 37 a 40 from the first floor. The venue located on Avenida del Libertador 1473 opens its doors from Tuesday to Friday from 11 a 20 and Saturdays and Sundays 10 a 20.
