Inaugurated "Nomad", exhibition dedicated to Léonie Matthis at the Cabildo
A few days ago, the exhibition "Nómade" arrived at the National Museum of the Cabildo of Buenos Aires and the May Revolution., dedicated to the work of Léonie Matthis.
With free entry, The exhibition can be seen from Wednesday to Sunday from 10.30 a 18 hours, under the curation of Jimena Ferreiro and the assistance of Florence Baliña and María Laura Pérez Veronesi.
This proposal brings together paintings, engravings, drawings, sketches, photographs and documents from the family heritage and the collections of the National Museum of the Cabildo and the Cornelio de Saavedra Historical Museum. on your journey, the public will have the opportunity to delve into the creations of the prolific artist born in the French city of Troyes in 1833.
Installed in our country (died in 1952 a Turdera), Matthis is considered as a modern artist, intuitive and gestural. Thanks to his creations he found his own language through a very personal handling of color.
Within that context, “Nómade” addresses his avidity for research and knowledge of the local past, his explorations through the landscapes of Argentina and South America, his training and his method of work, and certain domestic and family aspects that went through their daily life.
On the other hand, as part of the exhibition, his great-granddaughter Paula Léonie Vergottini and Agustín D’Ambrosio were invited to display in a facility (The Guarani printing press) his research on the history of printing in the Jesuit missions, made from the painting by Matthis dedicated to the subject that can be seen in the gallery. The feminist art historian Georgina Gluzman was also invited to produce an audiovisual piece that crosses the archive, academic research and the epistolary genre.
The exhibition will remain open until 26 of March.
