"Kinky Boots" swept a new installment of the Hugo Awards
Monday night was the consecration for the show "Kinky Boots", work that stayed with 14 statuettes in a new edition of the traditional Hugo Awards for musical theater.
Starring Martín Bossi and Fernando Dente, under the direction of Ricky Pashkus, the work was left with some of the most salient categories as "Best Musical", "Best Choreography" and "Best Musical Direction". Within the director category, the award went to Alfredo Arias for his work in "Happyland".
"Kinky Boots" is the national adaptation of the Broadway classic, based on the book by Harvey Fierstein and the homonymous film directed by Julian Jarrold (2005), with music and songs by American singer Cyndi Lauper. The show also won the awards for "Male Leading Performance" for Fernando Dente, "Male Ensemble Interpretation" for Nicolás Villalba, "Original Costume Design" and "Original Set Design", among others.
The ceremony took place at the Astral Theater on Corrientes Avenue and was conducted by Laura Fernández and Diego Reinhold.
In a night of mixed sensations, since it was one of the first meetings under strict protocols that carried out one of the areas hardest hit by the pandemic, Claudia Lapacó's career was also recognized and tributes were paid to María Elena Walsh and Hugo Midón for the tenth anniversary of their deaths., with musical numbers by the three nominees for Best Musical (“Happyland”, “Hello Dolly” Y “Kinky Boots”).
While, the presentation of each category was in charge of figures such as Julio Chávez, Enrique Pinti, Hannibal Pachano, Paola Krum, Pepe Cibrián Campoy, Jey Mammon, Nicolás Scarpino and Julieta Nair Calvo, among the summoned personalities.
