The artist and writer Fernanda Laguna opens exhibition in Virginia

The artist, poet and cultural manager Fernanda Laguna opens her first international anthological exhibition this Saturday, "As everyone" ("As Everybody" in English) at the Institute of Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University.

In the aforementioned American city the artist will exhibit some 50 paintings made from 2010, sample part “Dizzy in the tide” on feminist struggles and a publication produced with the project Belleza y Felicidad Fiorito.

Curated by Dominic Willsdon, “As everyone” It has been in the process of work for almost a year and what it proposes is an anthology that reflects and accounts for Laguna's work from its different facets: as visual artist, curator of alternative art spaces, novelist and poet and activist.

In this way, a central part of the exhibition will be dedicated to his paintings produced in the last ten years. But there will also be a project room that will collect the exhibition “Dizzy in the tide” -organized in co-authorship with Cecilia Palmeiro- that testifies through records and documents to feminist marches against gender violence, that arose with force from the calls that shouted Not One Less.

The third section of the sample, which will be open until 10 from January, according to a statement released by the Art Center of the University of Virginia and the Nora Fisch Gallery, It will be centered on a publication with a news newspaper format that Laguna produced with the people who participate in the Belleza y Felicidad Fiorito project, What are you doing? 17 years in Villa Fiorito.

Writer, artist, Hurlingham-born curator and cultural manager in 1972, Laguna is the creator of the Beauty and Happiness gallery in 1999 in Almagro and also from the Eloísa Cartonera publishing house. His works were exhibited at the Americas Society in New York and the LACMA in Los Angeles., among other international spaces

In addition to this anthology in Virginia, Laguna will exhibit in February 2021 at the Drawing Center in New York and provides for a major retrospective at the Museo Carrillo Gil in Mexico City in mid- 2021.
