The series of “The Lord of the rings” will premiere next year
The first season of the series adapted from the literary universe created by the British writer J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Lord of the rings”, developed by Amazon Studios, finished filming in New Zealand.
Within this framework, The production announced the release date on the Amazon Prime Video platform for the 2 September next year.
The delivery episodes, that can be seen weekly, will be focused on the Second Age of Middle Earth, several thousand years before the events of “The Lord of the rings” and of “The Hobbit”, and will present heroes and characters who starred in the birth of important kingdoms and dark powers that spread and marked the future of that fictional world.
Last may, it turned out that the Swedish-French filmmaker Charlotte Brändström, known for her work on other strips like “The Outsider” (HBO) O “The Witcher” (Netflix), had been hired to direct some chapters, together with the Spanish J.A. Bayonne (“The orphanage”, “Jurassic World: The fallen kingdom”) and to the English Wayne Yip (“Doctor Who”, “Hunters”).
During the filming of the series, that started last february, The data was also confirmed - already rumored since the beginning of the project- that it will be one of the most expensive productions in history, with an initial budget that was around 465 millions of dollars.
The information arose as a result of the publication of the Official Information Act of the New Zealand Government, whose documents also indicated that among Amazon's plans with this project is the possibility of making another four seasons of the series in that country.
Compared, the huge figure far exceeds other productions of the fantasy genre, like the successful “Game of Thrones”, that had an average investment of about 100 million dollars per season, while each of the six episodes of the last installment reached a cost of 15 millions.
But nevertheless, keep in mind that part of the budget for this first part includes the acquisition by Amazon in 2017 of the rights of the story created by J.R.R. Tolkien, that cost about 250 millions of dollars.
The status that the series achieves thanks to its budget is curiously in line with the film trilogy of “The Hobbit”, also belonging to the Tolkien universe and directed by Peter Jackson, which to date holds the record of being the film franchise with a production value of 623 millions.
The cast will include Robert Aramayo (“Game of Thrones”), Owain Arthur (“Kingdom”), Nazanin Boniadi (“Counterpart”) and Ismael Cruz Cordova (“The Catch”), y that J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will be the showrunners of the series. (TELAM)
