The director of “The Great Resignation” spoke with The sidewalk and marked what it was like to adapt one of the great hits of the '60s to continue being valid today..

With seasons at the El Plata Cinema Theater in Mataderos and the La Ribera Theater in La Boca, “The Great Resignation” is one of the works produced by the Buenos Aires Theater Complex that continues its march to pure success, thanks to a strong text with a tragicomic tone updated by the great Lisandro Fiks.

Based on the original work “La Fiaca”, that Ricardo Talesnik wrote in 1967, This work is updated and remains valid thanks to the actions of Gastón Cocchiarale, Laura Cymer, Fiks himself, On Vainsein, Romina Fernándes and the virtual participation of Luis Brandoni.

It is currently one of the great hits on the Picadero theater billboard and for this reason, Its director was very happy about the impact the play had and even remarked that the “Layout of the Picadero makes us have the audience much closer” and that “feeds back the humor and our energy.”.

What did the text of 'La fiaca' represent in you?? Was it always your intention to update it and address it?

No, I actually had no intention of doing “La Fiaca.”. It was a proposal from my friend Gastón Cocchiaralle, who asked me to direct it. So, When I approached the text again, it seemed to me that an update of the topic was essential.. I thought it was fine for the late '60s., in which it was a resounding success, but now it needed an update. It seemed to me that having 'fiaca' today was not the fundamental point of the work.

I really liked taking the theme of humor and carrying it forward.. Make a comedy that has a social and political background like “La Fiaca” had.

It is worth noting that the work raises the possibility of, at times, break away from technology, to reconnect with reality. Emphasizing its abuse. Equally, as Fiks explains, The work does not try to “demonize technology or cell phones.”. It seems to me that the most serious problem is the limit”.

Given this question, The director assures that although “everything on the cell phone is intended to hypnotize and trap you”, It is up to each one to “put the limit on this reality.”. In this way, the true benefits could be appreciated, such as “bringing family members closer, clear up doubts, study and read at any time and that's good. Now the abuse is not good and the phone addiction much less so”, points.

Have you seen yourself reflected in any of the situations in the work??

And, absolutely. In fact there are many things in everyday life, mine and the people around me who are dedicated to the work.

I think that is also one of the great attractions of the text.: that people feel reflected. You see or see people very close to you and laugh about it, although it borders on the tragicomic, but the point is that, that we all feel represented by the work.

The phenomenon of “the great resignation” worldwide caused an important movement when it came to taking a step aside from work.. Do you think that the work can work to finish deciding those undecided who are not yet encouraged to the great change and the adventure of new horizons??

Yes, I think so. The attempt is to invite people to reflect., whether with technology or with childhood dreams. In fact a friend of Laura's (Take) He had told her that he had quit his job after seeing the play.. Let's hope it's for a much happier venture than the job I had..

Hopefully, The world would be very different if all of us dedicated ourselves to the things we loved and dreamed of when we were children.. Everyone's mood and mood would be different.

One of the most reflective scenes is that of traveling to childhood and remembering those lost dreams.. Have you ever had a similar situation??

Yes, Of course I go back to that childhood and think about those lost dreams. Also luckily I fulfilled many of them, but I think – like the previous question- know that this society and this world need people to not fulfill their dreams and work, and fill the positions that society needs and that the work is there. That's like very painful, like the world invites us to go crazy if we don't connect with that it's all very painful.

As director, Fiks defines the work “a comedy from beginning to end” and at the same time “attempts to reflect a little of the sociopolitical moment of our days.”, also trying to get people to reflect and see themselves reflected in what may be an excess in technology”.

Within that context, “The play has every intention of making you have a good time and I think we achieved it.”, because people leave very happy and laugh a lot during the play”, points Fix.

Personally, You are ending the season with “Birdland”, You also did it with “Malpractice”, What balance have you made?? Can anything be anticipated for the future??

I am with “The Great Renunciation” and “Birdland”, which will now return on Wednesdays in November at El Galpón de Guevara as a farewell. After yes, I have some works there that I will probably release next year., But I'm not going to say anything yet because there's nothing concrete.. What is concrete is that we will continue with these two proposals and we hope you do not miss them.
