Mar del Plata receives the sample of the brilliant graphic humorist Landrú
In the framework of the anniversary for the centenary of his birth, the city of Mar del Plata will inaugurate the exhibition "Brief universal history of Landrú", in honor of the great cartoonist.
The exhibition is organized by the National Library and will be open to the public from 7 January to 27 February at the Municipal Museum of Art “Juan Carlos Castagnino”, With free entry.
The exhibition sums up almost 70 years of work by one of the most outstanding cartoonists and cartoonists in our country. The striking thing about this exhibition is its origin, beginning with the Newest Genesis, Landrú's first conceptual work.
In 1939, a young Juan Carlos Colombres from 17 years and, who was still in high school, wrote and drew in an Avon brand spiral notebook his vision of the origin of the universe and humanity.
Jose Maria Gutierrez, show curator, points: “This extraordinary notebook is the one that organizes the exhibition”. And add: "Starting from this, We are going to show the entire trajectory of Landrú, with unpublished originals and material from the different collections of the National Library, added to the contribution of Fundación Landrú. This is unpublished material from one of the pillars of graphic humor and Argentine journalism”.
More than 50 original documents, Brief Universal History of Landrú helps the visitor to discover the different facets of Juan Carlos Colombres: the writer, journalist, the comedian and, as well, the composer. And it takes him on a tour of the enormous thematic universe of his work., which includes current, history, custom, politics, culture and idiosyncrasy, in a path full of pleasant surprises.
The show originally opened in March 2018 in the National Library and until the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic it had been exhibited in the Tello museums, in Viedma, Black river; and Art and Memory MAM, in La Plata.
The opening date of the exhibition in Mar del Plata is not accidental: this summer and throughout 2023 Colombres will be commemorated for the 100th anniversary of his birth: 19 of January of 1923, In Buenos Aires city.
This time, A museum space dedicated exclusively to Landrú's humor related to Mar del Plata will be added to the exhibition. Raul Colombres, humorist's son, bill: “When the proposal to bring the exhibition, we found many documents about Landrú and this city, since it was the place where we spent the summer during our vacations. Mar del Plata, How attracted my father was, It was reflected in much of his humorous work”.
