Minujin is almost ready the Parthenon of Books in Germany
It is almost ready and the monumental Parthenon of Books that Argentina artist Marta Minujín built in the German city of Kassel, under the prestigious Documenta art festival 14 starting on 10 of June.
“Europe is in a terrible state of self-destruction, of not understanding each other. So this Parthenon of peace shows all the prohibitions that were in the world of writers and books, how politicians, who are lower than the artists, decide what others have to read about”, explained the artist who has become an icon of the Latin American pop movement.
And he told that the Parthenon, which is also a tribute to the one he made in Buenos Aires for the country's return to democracy, will contain prohibited books “some even in the 1500. In each one a map of when it was banned will be put, when was it reissued, everything. Each book has a stamp of mine from the Parthenon and I am asking people to put their email and name so that other social networks can be created between the person who is going to take the book and the one who sent it”.
“Alice in Wonderland was banned in China in Mao's time because animals seemed intelligent next to a human and that could not be. Little Red Riding Hood was banned in Spain by the Falangists and they dyed her dress blue. Shakespeare's Hamlet was banned in Ethiopia”, listed.
The result is a gigantic structure made up of one hundred thousand books with now classic books., so it is amazing that they were ever banned. To those listed by Minujín we must add works of the magnitude of The Little Prince, Bernarda Alba's house, Metamorphosis, Madame Bovary, Lolita, The Alchemist, The Buenos Aires Affair, the complete works of Freud and The Picture of Dorian Gray, among many others.
