Two Argentine directors took El Pardo 2020, the prize of the competition «The films after Tomorrow», of the Locarno International Film Festival (Switzerland), which was created especially for the affected movies, suspended or delayed by COVID.

Lucrecia Martel won the international competition with her documentary “Chocobar”, while Marí Alessandrini stayed with the Swiss competition with his film “Zahora”. With these distinctions, both productions were awarded 70 one thousand Swiss francs (approximately 70 one thousand dollars).

In “Chocobar”, Martel ventures into the political documentary inspired by the case of an indigenous activist from Tucumán who was assassinated while peacefully defending the territory of the Los Chuschagasta community. “Zahori” is a co-production with Switzerland and Chile filmed in Patagonia, that investigates the friendship relationship between an elderly Mapuche and a Swiss girl from 13 years. The project had already been the winner of the bilateral co-production contest organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) and the Ministry of Cultures, the Arts and Heritage (MCAP) From Chile, what gives 50 one thousand dollars.

Meanwhile, the Festival's Youth Jury awarded the Eureka projects, by Lisandro Alonso, y Azor, a co-production with Switzerland and France, Directed by Andreas Fontana.

With 73 years of history, the Locarno International Film Festival is one of the world's leading film festivals. This edition was especially dedicated to supporting the film industry in the year of the global health crisis.
