Martin Caparros was honored by Columbia University
Martín Caparrós, author of emblematic works of narrative or literary journalism such as “Long distance” Y “Inside”, was distinguished with the María Moors Cabot award, the oldest in the journalistic field that, awarded by Columbia University, recognized it as “one of the main voices of Latin American literary journalism”.
Created in 1938 by Godfrey Lowell Cabot as a tribute to his wife, This award rewards journalistic excellence in different fields with five thousand dollars, and will be delivered, along with a gold medal, the next 10 October at that New York academy. Among those who received the distinction (dedicated this year to the memory of the murdered mexican journalist Javier Valdez) are the Brazilian Dorrit Harazim, Mimi Whitefield, del Miami Herald; and Nick Miroff, del Washington Post.
“I'm glad that one of the great journalism schools has decided to reward someone who has never been to a journalism school. Y, Of course, I'm very glad that someone is me ”, Martín Caparrós said from Madrid.
Caparrós confirmed that the 10 October will travel to New York, U.S, at the award ceremony. And I add: “I am very happy that an award that is usually dedicated to the genres of duro hard journalism ’- today, the investigation- This time recognize someone who works more so-called lite literary journalism ’, the chronic, more narrative ways”.
