More of 160 thousand people enjoyed Film Festival of Mar de Plata
On Monday ended a new edition of the International Film Festival of Mar de Plata, the derby that lived movingly, because it was entirely dedicated to the memory of director José Martínez Suárez.
In this way, Edition number 34 of the only Class A Latin American Festival said goodbye with the record of having been visited by more than 160 thousand people and a large number of functions out since its inauguration.
After the award ceremony on Sunday, the Festival offered the audience a feast with free performances, films that were awarded in this edition, as the winner of the Golden Astor for Best Film in the International Competition, the Spanish "O that burns", Oliver Laxe; Portuguese "Varela Vitalino", Pedro Costa; Serbian German coproduction "I Was at Home, But”, de Angela Shanelec; German Brazilian "A life invisível", Karim Aïnouz, Uruguay or Argentina "Floor Standing", Ezekiel Raduzky.
The 34th edition featured several tributes to who was its president for more than a decade, the renowned film director and teacher, José Martínez Suárez, who was recognized with the Golden Astor In Memoriam and his film "The boys did not use arsenic" was in charge of opening the Festival, after the opening ceremony, in which the renowned actress Graciela Borges received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
During 10 days, Festival had over 500 projections, of 300 films, that formed the 7 official competitions, sections and special activities, in 15 island. The films were accompanied by 100 international guests, 300 national and more guests 2500 accredited, with 530 national and international journalists.
Organized by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) and with 65 years of history, The Festival is among the fifteen festivals qualified by FIAPF with Class A in the world, category shares, among others, with Cannes, Venice and San Sebastian, besides being the only one of its kind in Latin America.
