With full rooms and a lot of emotion, the 24th edition of the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre Film Festival concluded, the most important meeting of horror and fantasy cinema in the country.

The twenty-fourth edition of the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre Film Festival came to an emotional close, leaving a trail of enthusiasm among film buffs in the region. During 12 days full of projections, the audience enjoyed an exceptional selection of genre film productions, consolidating the reputation of the festival as an unavoidable reference for horror and fantasy film lovers. The massive participation of the public and the diversity of artistic proposals underline the success of this edition, which had more than 20,000 assistants.

Outstanding Film Competitions

International Competition

BARS24 presented an international competition full of cinematographic talent and diversity, where the following films stood out:

– Best film: “The dining room table” (Spain)

– best Director: Laura Moss por “Birth/Rebirth” (UK)

– Best screenplay: Laura Moss y Brendan J. O’Brien por “Birth/Rebirth” (U.S)

– Best Feature Film Actor: Víctor Clavijo for “The Wait” (Spain)

– Best actress: Nyah Perkin por “Daughter of the sun” (Canada)

– Best FXs: “The Wait” (Spain)

– Best Cinematography Feature Film: “The Moor” de Chris Cronin (UK)

Special mentions from the jury:

  1. “For the courage to build one's own universe, personal, full of freaky and adorable characters and, especially, for daring to tell of an alien invasion based on culture and not violence, The first of the Special Mentions is for “Lava 2 (The new Narcissus Show)” by Ayar Blasco (Argentina)”.
  2. “For the representation of generational boredom and the construction of a kaleidoscope full of drugs, colors, bailes, psychiatric and time travel, the second special mention goes to “Zanox” by Benő Baranyi (Hungary)”.

Ibero-American Competition

The Ibero-American competition highlighted high-caliber productions, where they stood out:

– Best film: “The other way” (Colombia, Brazil)

– best Director: Diego Felipe Guzmán for “The Other Way” (Colombia, Brazil)

– Best actress: Ana Burgos for her work in “Eros Tanathos” (Chile)

– best Actor: Mario Mayo for his work in “Os reviento” (Spain)

– Documentary special mention: “Another cursed film” for being a very complete record of the history of genre cinema in Argentina.

The opening of the festival was held with a screening at the Chacarita Cemetery

Argentine Competition

The Argentine competition celebrated the best of national cinema, granting recognition to:

– Best film: “Al impenetrable” by Sonia Bertotti

– best Director: Pablo Parés for “Marisa y Gomoso”

– Best actress: Clara Kovacic for “The Caregiver”

– best Actor: Gonzalo Suarez for “Al impenetrable”

– Mention for interpretation: Virginia Lombardo

– Mention Art and special effects: “Ghost Project”

International Short Film Competition

In the international short film competition, the highlights were:

– Best Short Film: "My Zone" (Spain)

– Best Short Film Director: Pedro Fraga Villaca for “Collection of Extremely Short Stories” (Brazil)

Best National Short Film: “Flesh of God”

Audience Awards

The public actively participated in the selection of the winners, and the vote for best feature film went to “Don't come out”, directed by Gonzalo Giménez (Argentina), with an outstanding average of 9.57.

Respawn Competition

The “Reappeared Competition” section presented “When Evil Stalks” by Demian Rugna (Argentina), adding an additional touch of intrigue and suspense to the festival.
