More of 62 thousand people enjoyed Independent Culture Month

During the month of November, The City of Buenos Aires vibrated with the energy of independent culture, welcoming more than 62,000 enthusiasts who actively participated in Independent Culture Month (MCI).

Organized by the Ministry of Culture of the City through the General Directorate of Music, This third edition of the event stood out for its diversity and scope.

During 30 days, were carried out more than 600 artistic shows in 156 spaces distributed in 30 neighborhoods of the City. From theater and dance to literature and music, the MCI offered an eclectic program that encompassed multiple cultural disciplines. further, the San Martín Cultural Center, Station Park, and Centenario Park served as main stages, along with special activations in the Abasto neighborhood in honor of Music Day.

One of the highlights was the transformation of the Parque Centenario Amphitheater into a cultural epicenter, hosting various artistic manifestations throughout the month. The Minister of Culture of the City, Enrique Avogadro, highlighted the significance of the event: “This third edition of Independent Culture Month was more than an event; “It was a meeting in which creativity and diversity were manifested in every corner of the City”.

The general director of Music, Lorena Schejtman, highlighted the importance of supporting self-managed and plural artistic expressions that reflect the identity of Buenos Aires. The programming included free and accessible proposals, promoting the visibility of independent culture and supporting artists and cultural spaces.

The event was not only limited to the Argentine capital, but extended its reach through a call that selected 156 projects nationwide. Independent cultural spaces and independent artists/groups received financial support from the City Ministry of Culture.

Within the framework of this celebration, projects such as Supply In Situ were highlighted, that merged art, community, public space and heritage in the Abasto neighborhood. further, activations were carried out for Music Day, with live shows that covered various genres, and the MCI culminated with the celebrations for Independent Theater Day on 30 of November.

Independent Culture Month is not only an event, but a continuous manifestation of the commitment of the City of Buenos Aires to cultural diversity. From the creation of programs such as Impulso Cultural and the Law of Independent Cultural Spaces to initiatives such as Abasto Cultural and Cultural Streets, The City seeks to strengthen and promote independent culture, recognizing its symbolic and economic value.
