Mendoza celebrates 197 years of the Biblioteca San Martin

One of the most important cultural institutions in Mendoza meets 197 years and will celebrate an important event to be held at its headquarters, this Wednesday 10 -from 11-.

Born thanks to the cultural impulse that our country lived in 1820; among men who participated in this gestation the figure of General Jose de San Martin highlighted, along with other military of Independence and some enlisted in the ranks of citizens rivadavismo (Bernardino Rivadavia presidency 1826-1827). They were all supporters of Enlightenment thought.

In this ideological context, the need arose to create the Library Society Mendocina. its rules, sanctioned 11 March 1822, It reflected the desire to create a public library to disseminate "useful knowledge".

He was appointed first secretary of the agency, Agustin Delgado and, the 9 July 1822, the Mendocina Library opened its doors to the community.

At present, It is the only character Provincial Public Library and operates under the purview of the Ministry of Culture, as a democratic institution, designed to provide, efficiently and without any discrimination, all existing information.

The most important library in the province works in Remedios Escalada de San Martin 1843, Mendoza City and is open Monday through Friday, of 8:30 a 19:30 and on Saturdays, of 9 a 13.

Besides having one of the most important collections in the region, It provides outreach, as courses, workshops, presentations, exhibitions and shows for all ages.
