With a total of 85 watercolors created by artist Marcos Acosta, AMIA prepares to pay tribute to the victims of the brutal attack that occurred some time ago 26 years.

“Re Memoria - portraits of life” is the name of this exhibition paying tribute to all those people who lost their lives that fateful 18 July 1994, whose crime is still unpunished.

In that context, the artist's achievements serve as an exercise of memory from the painting that propagates, at the same time, the demand for justice. This is how Acosta's ambitious project can be defined, when summoned by AMIA.

The creations are born from the inspiration of a series of archival images and photographs that the victims' families specially chose for the creation of the works.. As if entering a museum room, the exhibition can be visited virtually, portrait by portrait, to be able to contemplate each one of the 85 watercolors displayed there.

Según explica Elio Kapszuk, director of the Art and Production area of AMIA - as well as curator of the exhibition- "Before the passage of time, painting from a photo became a metaphor for the fact of remembering again ”. In turn, he explained that the artist "spent seven months restoring, rescue and make visible the fatal victims, thanks to the photos that the family gave us and trusted us. In this project, the creative process itself, it was as important as the work itself ”.

On the other hand, Kapsuzk pointed out that one of the first projects that the institution carried out in this regard, was the publication of “Their names and their faces”, a book that - through portraits and texts made from testimonies of family and friends- realized the 85 lives that were unfairly lost.

"Based on that experience, on this 26th anniversary of the attack, we wanted to re-portray the victims by appealing to a new language. So we returned to one of our first actions, as a symbol that the request for memory and justice remains intact and that, through other artistic paths, our commitment is renewed ”, emphasized the manager.

While, the artist in charge of the work stated that his work has been, Without a doubt, "Something very important in my life. Something that goes beyond my career. Having painted each of the victims has been a very profound journey in the human aspect. For me it has been a pride and an honor ”.

Each of the watercolors created by Acosta were signed and bear the name of the victim and the age they were at the time they were killed.. After seven months of work, when the artist ended his project, he noticed a detail that he considered nothing accidental. "I completed the job on a Monday 18. Something impossible to have foreseen. I realized when I was already in the last watercolor. It ended on a Monday 18, same day that the attack was. I take it as a message that doing this was the right thing to do. ”, remarked.
