A new mural was recently inaugurated in Puerto Madero, made by Ibero-American artists united for democracy and peace.

The work takes place in the Micaela Bastidas park, in order to commemorate the 40 years of democracy in our country. The artistic action takes place within the framework of the call for technical cooperation projects of the Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities 2023, in which the City of Buenos Aires, through the General Secretariat and International Relations and the Ministry of Culture, proposed to work together.

Likewise, this artistic project had the participation of the cities associated with the UCCI, Montevideo and Santiago de Chile.

“We want to keep alive the friendship relationship with our neighboring countries, ties that already constitute our identity. Spaces like this allow us to get closer with actions that enable reflection, how is democracy, which, in the framework of its 40th anniversary, accompanied the Night of the Bookstores and is the axis of this year's activities. further, Initiatives like the mural strengthen and create new cultural bridges that give the opportunity to recognize and make visible the talent of Latin American artists”, said Enrique Avogadro, Minister of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires.

The artists selected for this project were Pol Corona, representing Buenos Aires; Noe Cor by Montevideo; and Giova Kini for Santiago de Chile. Through this collaboration, twinning is sought between the participating cities, reflection on the values of peace in our societies and the enhancement of urban art as a means of social expression.

The synthesis of the aesthetic proposal of the mural takes into account the history of the three countries and their processes of return to democracy.. With the intention of challenging future generations, the mural seeks to enhance the playful aspect of the meeting by emulating a landscape or a square where children from the three territories gather to show their stories and share them. for the backdrop, the artists refer to landscapes of the Chilean mountain range and the Río de la Plata as a geographical reference to Montevideo and Buenos Aires.

The inauguration of the mural was attended by Enrique Avogadro, Minister of Culture; Francisco Resnicoff, Undersecretary of International Relations; and Pamela Malevich, Undersecretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. Also present were Verónica Tapia Courbis, deputy director of Illustrious Culture of the Municipality of Santiago; Valentina Basaez, culture coordinator- Santiago Development Corporation; and José Miguel Onaindia, Internationalization advisor of the Cultural Promotion Division of the Municipality of Montevideo.
